Title: What's the skinny on the rattle?
Post by: wisconsin75 on February 07, 2015, 08:04:04 PM
Shot my 83 for the first time today...what an awesome trigger!

Accuracy was point of aim at 20 feet, a little wide but I was poppin' off getting used to the gun.

So I've read a little but what do you guys know about the magazine rattling and is there anything that can be done.  Mine is .380, I've read it's an unfortunate byproduct of a multi caliber mag as they are the same used for 9 Mak.

It's the product of a double stack mag and the way the rounds line up.

Check out the xray pictures in this Thread (http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=50677.msg307818#msg307818)

No way around it?   No tricks other than adjusting my round count so y hey don't rattle?

You can try stronger mag springs. That may help...or not.

It's not a tension issue

Nearly all semiauto cases are tapered to some extent, the bases being the largest diameter. When you stack them, particularly in a double-stack configuration, it leaves the front of the round loose to rattle around. The rattle will stop when you stop shaking the mag.

Berettas rattle?  Glocks rattle?  M&Ps rattle?  None that I've owned or shot.  It's not a little rattle and it would definitely make me think twice about my 83 for carry.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my CZ and it's a shooter.  I didn't buy it for carry so I'm not sweating it, all I'm saying is it more obvious and louder that any other double stack I have ever come across.

380's are straight cases,  with no taper. I must say that none of my three cz 83 magazines has ever rattled.

Sometimes my tactical sports magazines rattle if they are dirty and the spring tension is being hindered by the dirt.

The rim diameter is .374, the mouth is .373. It does leave loose space when double stacked.

My CZ 82 will rattle when full, as does my Glock 30 and 6906--if I shake them. No one is going to hear it when carried.
