Title: 75B Mags
Post by: meistermash on February 08, 2015, 10:48:47 PM
Friends, just acquired my new favorite 9mm.   ;D  A 75b.   Who has the best prices on magazines or where is a good place to buy them?  Regular standard capacity 16 rounders are just fine.  ;)

Thanks for posting, was just about to ask the same thing.  I have a 75BD and was going to go with the Mecgars 10 rnd.  Any reason not to and to go with OEM ones?  Since OEM are basically double the price I figured unless people had bad experience with the Mecgars I would go with them.

Mecgar makes the OEM CZ mags, so they are good to go[emoji6]

I also vote for the MecGars. I've been using them for years. I believe they are also one of the OEM suppliers for Ruger factory magazines.

Ordered a couple, seems the consensus is that Mecgar's are legit....
Have not heard anything negative and half price is fine by me...

Dtech, that outfit has been a touch shady in my past experience.  It says org manufacturer and they are half the price of cz factory magazines.   I don't trust them.   I can't remember just what I put them on my nobuy list for though.   Ima get a few of the mecgars from the fist link I think.   After 94 I don't go with out having at least 5 mags per pistol or ten mags per rifle.

The link I provided are for Mec Gar mags which is the OE manufacturer for CZ.  Never had a problem with CDNN and the shipping is only $9.99 regardless of how many mags you buy.

Greg Cote is a great source too and his prices are close if not the same and his shipping is a little lower at $6.95.  I've had great experiences with him as well.  I was just providing another resource.  :)

Well I ordered 3 from GC today.  Must be Mr. Cote his self that called about my address that doesn't ever show up on the shipping calculators.  And said he would ship them out today too which there really isn't any rush.
Thank you for the link anyway Dtech.  ;)

Speaking of mags, I had a failure to chamber yesterday at the range.

I inserted a fully loaded (factory) magazine, pulled back the slide all the way, and released it. I was so sure the bullet fed that when it didn't fire, I assumed a bad primer. But, when I looked, the chamber was empty!

I've also had this happen--only once---with my 1911.

So, when I carry, I'll do with my CZ what I do with the 1911: a) load one round in the mag, b) insert and feed, c) eject mag (if it's empty, I'm 100% sure the round is chambered), d) reload mag and insert.

Or load it up chamber it and then pull the slide back slightly to see the round in the chamber. That's what I do.

Yes, that, too. But I'm kind of worried about "dragging" the next round in the chamber slightly forward, as I check.

But both methods work, for sure.

I placed an order with Midway yesterday.

Ordered 3 of the "Mec-Gar Optimum Magazine CZ 75 9mm Luger Steel Anti-Friction Black" at $23.99 each. I liked the base plate style, and the anti friction. Figured it was worth the extra couple dollars each? I also ordered 400 rounds of 5 different brands of 115 and 124 grain ammo to do some testing with my 75B SA. It's been over 2 years since I've shot this particular gun. Should be fun?

Thanks for the recommendations in this thread.  I ordered 2 Mec-Gar 10 round (you know, California) mags from Greg Cote, LLC.  Both worked great in my new 75 BD, the price was right, and they were shipped same day.

Just received a couple MecGar mags last week... Very impressed with the quality, fit & finish...

- Very little follower tilting/canting
- 12 coil spring
- Feed lips are smooth and precise
- Surfaces are remarkably smooth (You can literally see your reflection in them)

Will be buying more for sure....

I have used the same 4 MecGar mags in all range sessions for all three of my CZ's for the past 13 months and so far those same 4 mags have had 15,626 rounds fired through them and they are still going strong.  I do download them at the range to save the springs.  I only put 10 rounds instead of 16 in each mag to save the springs and if you do the math it means the spring in each mag has been cycled 390 times and their springs are still going strong.  Mine are the 16 round mags with the same thin base plates that are on the mags that came with the gun.  I use some 17 rounders with a slightly thicker plastic baseplate for carry.

Tim,  you are right on the money to preserve your springs.

So I finally had a chance to go out after receiving my order of MecGars and can say that I am very pleased with them and paying about half the price.  In fact I think the butt plate of the MecGars fits and looks nice in the bottom of the frame.

The only negatives I could find for the MecGars was that I had to press the magazine release button harder to get them to release.   On the OEM ones i could just barely touch it with the tip of my thumb and they would come out.  The MecGars I had to actually press the button with a little force.

Other than that, 100% exactly the same.

I noticed the same thing when I first received my Mec-Gar mags, but after time they didn't require pushing the mag release hard.

@CZinAL, good to know.  I'll keep an eye out for that.

The other thing is, that the base plate of the MacGears seems to fit and look better than the stock ones.  Just my further 2 cents.

Just a note regarding the Optimum magazines.  The top of the magazines are shaped differently than the 15rd or 16rd Mec-Gar magazines.  This coupled with certain bullet profiles and the slide stops on some pistols can cause the bullets to prematurely activate the slide stops on some pistols.  If this happens, don't worry.  The slide stop can be easily modified which will cure the problem.  Just ask if this happens.  If not, then you don't need to modify it.  BTW, my guess is that the top of the Optima magazines are shaped differently so they can get an extra cartridge in there.

Thanks for the heads up. Back when I bought my SA it was during the "ban" period, so it only came with two 10 round mags. I've only used it at the range in the past, so the round count wasn't a big deal to me. I ordered these new ones cause I do plan on starting to carry it.

New here, thanks for the link to GC!  Saved me some $$$!  Had some questions and Greg picked up the phone, after hours, and helped me.  That's customer service!

Ordered some Mec Gar CZ-75ZB, .40, 10-rounders. Wanted to know if the factory rubber bases would work.  Apparently not on the .40, 10-round, Mec Gars, as their base plates are polymer(?) vs. the factory steel.  Greg actually took time to try test fitting them, and they don't quite fit.  If you want the rubber bases, get the factory mags.

The 9mm, and higher cap .40, Mec Gars apparently DO have metal bases, like the factory mags, so they might work.  I had called, because my particular situation wasn't mentioned in Greg's site description. So, when you hear that the factory and Mec Gars are the same, there may be some exceptions.
