Hey guys. I have a glossy blue CZ 75 from 2013 and I'd like to darken the stainless colored internal barrel. This may be a huge mistake if it's going to look weird or not wear well at all during firing. I hear good things about Oxpho but what are your thoughts please about the likely success of this?
Thanks.
Keith

Sorry, but Oxpho Blue is made for use on carbon steel where it does a wonderful job. It doesn't work on stainless.

Rats. Thanks for the info though.

Well, the Oxpho blue arrived today and I gave it a try anyway. It certainly worked. The barrel went from stainless to dark-dark blue. I can work it with steel wool and ore product to get it pretty dark. Not sure if it will last, but the barrel is a nice dark charcoal color now. Looks better on my blue back gun than the bright stainless.

Hey, how about some pictures??[emoji6]

That's good to know. I've always heard/read the same thing, that stainless parts won't "take" bluing.
The gas tubes on M1 Garands are supposed to be stainless and refinishing them (to remove the shiny areas) is supposed to require special products and preps to return them to a flat black/dark finish. I might try some of that stuff? Brownell's huh?

Tonight after work. My bad. I still wonder how it will hold up after some rounds.

Not sure if the pic will post (might need to click on it). I'll get some pics of the barrel all by itslef tonight.

Yes, Brownell's gel I think it was. Comes in a liquid and a gel. Pic of the barrel below. Nevermind the fingerprint where I held it at the bottom. It may not last through a shooting session, but it looks sweet for now. If it does fade, I may try to heat up the barrel and then blue it, although the Brownell's doesn't require it per the directions.

The barrel looks really good!
However I wonder if CZ barrels are even stainless steel? I guess they are carbon steel left in the white? Stainless steel wouldn't work with standard blueing all that well.

If it were me I'd just throw on stainless grip screws to match the trigger and polish the barrel... I like the contrast, especially with a blued gun as opposed to black.

Agree. I'm sort of surprised it took at all. Will see how it does at the range on Friday and will report back.

I haven't made it to the range yet. Will report back on the blue staying power ASAP.

Your barrel looks good. Thank you for the pic. Be aware that even the black barrels coming from CZ wear around the barrel hood rather quickly. So if yours wears a bit its pretty standard.

That's good to know. Thanks. I figure depending on wear amount, I can touch up with Oxpho on occasion. The more I look at the blue-black on the barrel, the more I like it. It looks really slick in person.

Put about 250 rounds through her today. Blue wore thin on a couple places but not completely off. I touched it up with no problem. Maybe not a step everyone would want to deal with but I like the look. It definitely lasted better than I expected.

Good deal, thank you for the follow up.

I went one step further (after reading many posts saying it's OK to do so), and wet sanded very slightly the ejector area (forgot the correct name (hood?), but the area with the serial number) and the front couple inches of the barrel. Then I polished the areas and blued it again. It really pops now with a glossy look to the blue-ing. I'll need to touch it up on occasion, but that's fine. Looks much better in person on the blued gun.

Neat, it looks nice.

Finally took my CZ to the range today. Been way too long. Anyway, the blueing held up really well. No pics right now but it is essentially unchanged from when I applied the Oxpho. Hood stuff.l

Nice.
I really like the looks of the bbl. I don't think the bbl is stainless, but polished steel.
