Title: Duty and 2014 Interchangeability problems
Post by: CZHipster on June 02, 2015, 08:16:50 AM
So I have been carrying a P07 duty for about three years and that baby was perfect with its CGW internals and all of the "polishing" from many thousands of rounds.  I had, however,an interest in the front cocking serrations on the 2014 model and the improvements in the frame materials.  I picked one up cheap on Gunbroker last week.
The intent was to switch out all of the guts and recreate the exact same feel but that was not what happened.  Everything installed just fine (with help from Joe L's videos of course).  The problem was with the trigger pull.  The hammer would fall with a mm or 2 left in the pull.  If I finished the pull the trigger felt sticky and there was resistance.  It would also retain itself in the rearmost position for a split second before releasing to the front.  This is a problem.
I spoke with Joe and then David from CGW, both of whom suggested it may be the oversized roller.  I replaced the roller with the factory roller and there was not improvement.
From the feel of the bad trigger pull, i had originally sispected it was the trigger rubbing on the trigger cut out on the frame.  It just felt "platic-y" to me.  I decided to replace the duty trigger, trigger srping, and trigger bar with the newer setup that I had previously removed.   This solved the problem.
There must be some variations between the trigger and the frame measurements from Duty to 2014 which I was not aware of.  I am glad that the problem was fixed, I had my trigger perfectly tuned and was bummed when I ruined it!  Thank you David and Joe for the help!

I'm glad you worked the problem out. David and Joe have helped me out also. So what are your plans for the old gun?

Ivd heard of issues with the newer style trigger in the duty. Apparently it works both ways.

I will most likely try to sell the old one.  I have an emotional attachment to it after the last few years, though, lol.  Right now I'm just making sure I am happy with the new one in the EDC role before I take any action.

The old style (curved) P07 trigger is slightly longer than the new triggers in the P09s and new model P07s.

I just installed an older P07 curved trigger in my new .40 S&W P09 and the bottom tip of the trigger rubbed and hung up on the inside/bottom of the trigger guard.  I used a small razor blade knife/box cutter to shave some of the plastic off the inside bottom of the trigger guard and now it works perfectly.

The frames are different.  At least around the trigger guard area.  I bought two of the drop leg holsters for P07's that CZ USA has/had on sale.  My old Duty .40 S&W P07 dropped right in and it works like a charm.  I tried my P09 and it wouldn't lock in.  I just thought, "hmm", and put the P09 up.  A couple weeks back I bought a new model P07 in 9MM and it wouldn't fit in the holster either.  The two spring loaded tabs that lock the pistol in the holster would not engage.  My youngest son took the second holster apart, used a razor knife to shave a tiny bit off the end of the plastic tab and now the holster works perfectly with the new model P07, and even the P09's fit it now (with just a small amount of barrel/slide sticking out the bottom of the holster.)

That is interesting.  I did not notice the trigger rubbing on the trigger guard, but certainly the geometry was different.  It felt like the old trigger did not rotate at the same access.
You and your son sound handier than I am, so I am glad I had no mods to make!  I use two  holsters for my P07: bravo concealment OWB and an Alex and Ryan designs AIWB.  Both version fit great in either holster.  In fact, the Bravo OWB is actually for my P09 but I fantastic for the 07 as well.
There are more differences in the 2014 than I expected, but overall the ergonomics, shootability, and accuracy that i loved in my Duty have been retained.
