Title: Range report
Post by: rdb67 on February 22, 2002, 02:42:53 PM
Purchased .40 SA last thursday and ran 600 rds through it.  Not one FTF or FTE.  Overtravel was set perfectly at the factory.  Before taking it to the range, I had been considering adjustable sights.  Don't need them.  The factory fixed sights are spot on @25yds with both 165gr Lawman and Gold Dot.  From benchrest, shot 100-10x @25 with the Lawman.  I was very pleasantly surprised, since the factory test target was just under 3" group.  The only other big-bore auto I've been able to do this with was Dad's Cark custom .45. In fact, next time I make it back to Shreveport, LA I'll test my SA against one of the Clarks and get some pictures.  We have several that were gifts from Jim Clark Sr. to my grandfather who used to work for him.

The only fault I've found is the 2 stage pull after take-up.  In rapid fire, it makes it difficult to get a smooth trigger pull.  In slow fire, its not a problem because its easy to find that sweet-spot just before the trigger breaks.  From there, its a "glass rod" clean break.  This 2 stage pull is distinctive enough that I don't think it will ever smooth out.  I'll give it to 1500rds, then send it in for the CZ-USA trigger job mentioned in previous threads.  Even at $60 for a trigger job, $386 + $60 is an amazingly low price to pay for a match grade pistol.
