If someone could please answer... wondering if when you have the safety installed on the P09 if you must carry cocked and locked to engage the safety or if it can be engaged when the hammer is in double action mode? My CZ83 must have the hammer cocked to engage the safety. Thanks

I found that I can engage the safety on my P-09 when the hammer is fully cocked and half cocked. The safety on my CZ 75B can only be engaged when the hammer is fully cocked.

That would be correct. I read my owner's manual and it says "The safety can be set to the "Safe" position even with the hammer on the safety notch. However, it is strongly not recommended that the safety be engages while in this state as any forced cocking of the hammer or pulling of the trigger could damage the trigger mechanism and cause unwanted firing though the safety is in the "Locked" position.
So, in other words, even though you are able to in engage the safety with the hammer in the half cocked position, they highly recommend that you don't.
There are a lot of pistols out there that do allow you to engage the safety with the hammer down, half cocked, and fully cocked. That's the way most of the Tristar/Caniks are set up.
