Title: Identifying marks on CZ 82?
Post by: tcarn1 on September 28, 2015, 07:01:03 PM
Hey,

I'm a new member and looked through the FAQs and didn't see a topic that seemed related to my question. Please pardon me if I'm being repetitive.

My buddy is a gun nut and was looking over my CZ 82 and said it was a model 87.

He based this on the stamping above and in front of the trigger guard on the right side of the gun: she 87x.

I told him I thought that meant the gun was built in 1987.

He said that might be so, but he saw no other place on the gun to indicate the make and model.

So my questions are: 1. does the 87x indeed indicate the gun was built in 1987? If not, what does it stand for?

2. Where can we find the make and model indicators on these guns?

I appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks.

Yes, 1987 would be the year of manufacture.

The "X" is actually crossed swords and is the military acceptance mark.

The "she" indicates that your pistol is female, so always use the correct pronoun.   O0

I don't own an 82 - mine is an 83 in .380
But the model name and calibre are marked in big letters down the side of the slide. Is there no writing on yours?

If no information is on the side of the slide or the side of the receiver, take another look at the pistol.  Some importers stamp a discrete model / caliber / importer mark on the underside of the frame (receiver) or the slide.  Very rarely I have seen them on the front strap.

If the rifling is polygonal, with no lands or grooves inside the barrel you would definitely have a Vz.82 (aka CZ82) the Czech military pistol.  "Vz" is an abbreviation for "vzor", which is Czech for "model."  As others have already stated 'she' was made in 1987.

Happy shooting!  They are great pistols.

As best as I could see inside the barrel, it looks pretty smooth with no rifling grooves.

Sounds like a CZ82 for sure - with the slide removed, try dropping a 9x18mm Makarov cartridge into the chamber.  If it goes in with a nice "plunk" you know the caliber.

Perhaps someone refinished the pistol and polished away the identifiers on the slide?

Il.bill I know for sure it's an 82 (shot about 35 rounds of 9 x 18's through it) but there is no model ID on it. I guess whoever refurbished it must have blasted away the info on the slide before applying the duracoat. That's the only thing I can think of.

Having no model designator is correct for a CZ 82 military model as opposed to the CZ 83 commercial model. I own both, love them both, but the 82 is quite "plain jane" in outside appearance compared to the 83. Both are high quality firearms. Good Luck.

I have a CZ 83, .380, in Satin Stainless that is stamped with both a 93 and the SHE 90 and crossed swords on the frame

are you sure about the stainless? There are satin nickel finished CZ 83 pistols (the Israelis bought a number of them), but I've never seen an 83 in stainless.

Thanks Eastman! I wasn't sure if it was SS or Nickle.
