I'll lead off. Here is my video of the NC Sectional match. I forgot to turn the camera on for stage 7 and 9.

You're looking smooth.
Good shooting on the small poppers at what, 12 yards , more?. Did the extra shots improve your score on the short range silhouettes?
Nice COFs too.

Thanks. I need to pick up my pace a lot if I'm ever going to make it out of c class. I ended up 5th out of 22 c class production shooters. I was really hoping to make top 3 but not unhappy at all. The guy that won c class beat everybody except 1 GM.
The yellow steel on stage 4 was probably about 50'. I've shot enough that the steel doesn't really intimidate me like it use to.
The extra shots were just me being excited. Everything I took 3 shots on ended up being 3 alphas. Sometimes I just get too pumped up. Probably cost me a second or so.
Let's see some other video!
-
Nobody else takes video? Here I am wasting ammo and having a blast at a 2 gun match. I use to be good with a rifle. I guess age has finally caught up with me. :)

I'd like to give that PHA match a try but I know I would embarrass myself with my lack of rifle skills. Let alone my lack of pistol skills, lol. :-[
-
I have a bunch of them, however nobody wants to watch a D class shooter fumble around. More fun to watch the upper class shooters! I use the video to see what I am doing wrong... which of course is a lot, so I just pick one bad thing.. O0

OP, what kind of cam are you using?

You need to come on out. Trust me, you'll do better than you think. There's no better way to knock the rust off!

That looked pretty good to me brother. The stages looked really nice too, especially the 3gun. I think I need a shot gun!
-
Thanks! Slow is still slow ;D 3Gun is an addiction with 3x the cost, at a minimum. Recently divorced at 50, so the boys in the video are no longer shooting and live very far away. Too bad as one was sponsored... I digress...
Met a gal who had never really shot before. She jumped right into 3Gun and got the addiction. Watch out!! I will say that the 3Gun bunch are generally awesome, so go to a match sans shotgun, but with ammo. I would be surprised if you cannot hook up with someone who will let you shoot theirs. In our group, you would have them thrown at you! We love to help new people get started. One guy showed up a couple of years ago with a bolt action deer rifle in .270, a goose pump gun, and some pistol. We tried; he was determined to use what he had. Yup, addicted and by the next two matches had bought an AR and a proper shotgun.. LOL!!
-
That's awesome. This is definitely a great bunch of people. I'll be giving 3 gun a shot before long I'm sure. Pistol is just a gateway drug

Looked good Lon! One question though. Are you shooting in Open with a slide mounted optic?
-
Thanks. In that match I was shooting open since I was using a holster that isn't legal for production. USPSA just came out with a Carry Optics division last year (production with slide mounted optic) and that's what i will normally shoot. I was using carry gear and shooting by from concealment in that match using an aiwb holster so it wasn't production legal.
-
Good looking splits. What ammo are you using?
-
Thanks. I shoot whatever is handy. I think that's aguila and Remington.

I need to start taking my go pro when I shoot again. I hate to say it but I'm switching to limited major for a while.

Ha, I'm already dry firing 6 days a week this last month while I'm waiting to have time to start going to matches. My wife would say I'm already addicted...

Here is a recent match from last month. We shot some fun stages and I finished 3 overall out of 35, less than 1/10 of a second separated myself and 2nd place.

I finally took some more video. It was a poor showing but as you can see, I am trying to get used to a new caliber and plat form. There is a little bit of bad language in this one. The steel was proving elusive. Whoever decided black steel against a black berm was a good idea, is an idiot. Of course the white steel was hard for me as well.

Haven't shot a match since last September, and only 2 live fire range visits (with the Sphinx) since then, so I'm a little rusty. I did manage 2nd place overall Production on the "I Hate 6 Shooters" stage.

Had fun at the USPSA fun shoot yesterday! We kind of follow USPSA rules. I got a Hero Session for my birthday so I mounted it to my hat for yesterdays fun. Still have some things to figure out on the SP01 Tactical. I had two reloads where it failed to strip the top round. I think I have a grip issue riding the slide release and it fails to lock back.
After the match we ran one of the stages as a 3-Gun stage. Ton's of fun! I hope we get that going at our local club.

Thanks for the videos. Looked like a lot of fun.
Your steel shooting was very nice, and so was the paper except after some of the reloads. Looks like your sights are right on. Nice shooting.
Stopping the video frame by frame, it was hard to see a complete reload. It looked like a soft mag insert followed by a second "insurance slap" on the bottom of the mag.
If the heel of left hand is on the base of the mag when you insert it, as the mag hits the well just use a faster firm hit with just the heel of your week hand to lock it in. It might fix the feed problem.
-
1SOW,
I typically shoot the 97BD and it does require a firm reload. So I don't think that is an issue.
The first failure was me riding the slide release and the slide not locking back on empty. Once I performed the reload, I didn't rack the slide to chamber the gun and then click no bang.
The second failure I can't explain. I will wait to see if this continues. I don't recall this happening before. The one difference is my reloads, they are rather short (1.075). I will see how the next outing goes (if I don't go back to my 97BD) before I worry too much.
I will say that I'm really digging the GoPro Session. It has let me see what I don't remember when the buzzer goes off. It's light enough not to be a hindrance. I see myself filming more matches.
Cheers,
Toby

Yeah the match hammered a lot of people. Very few people in iron sight divisions had only a couple of Mikes, most were 8 Mikes or more if I remember correctly. It was my favorite match of the year as it was an excellent test of shooting ability. Only two stages I really screwed the pooch on were the dark house where I tried to game it and not use the flashlight and just trust my index and the speed shoot with the two fast swingers as I went too conservative and didn't figure out the timing until after I saw someone else shoot it.
But I also know there were some people that didn't like the amount of hard cover and no shoots, as it was too hard.

Had our monthly club match today. Had about 16 shooters, we were missing a couple of fast shooters and I was able to take the overall match win. I shot fairly well but I still have plenty to learn and improve upon.
The TS Orange is just so smooth and soft to shoot. I keep getting comments from my fellow shooters/club members that we need to chrono my loads to ensure they make major. I think they are just jealous :).
Here is today's match:

Man, your club lovessss NS.
On that last stage though, if you were going to end up in that spot for the final position, why shoot on the move in the beginning? Wouldn't it have been faster to just run straight to the left to get those steels then take out all four of the paper targets up close?
-
Yes, that stage was deliberate with plenty of NS behind steel. I hit one behind the plate rack. One poor gentleman had about 8 NS penalties on that stage alone. It made you slow down and aim!
It's funny you say that about taking the shots on move that last stage. That was my plan before I started shooting, then the buzzer went off and I didn't follow my plan (read my brain shut off and went into autopilot). It totally would have been faster and less confusing as when I went back to the right it almost shot them again.
Cheers,
Toby

Haha, I know the feeling all too well. I've only done small indoor setups so planning is never too difficult. And if you do deviate from your plan it's not really that big of a problem.
I would have panicked hard on that steel in front of NS. I always rush my shots on steel thinking they're easy to hit since there's no zoning.
-
Toby I don't think you are allowed to post videos of you shooting the Tactical Sport Orange any more.... I can't handle how amazing it looks to shoot. I lust for that pistol more and more because of you.
-
So I was handling my 97BD the other day (just because :)) and it felt a little naked without the thumb rest. I am a believer of them now. I think the thumb rest reduces the muzzle flip a ton and it is just so natural feeling with my grip. It would be interesting to shoot without one just to compare on camera.
Yes the TSO is a lazer and super smooth to shoot. I did have some old reloads (from when I first started out reloading) give me some feeding issues during a practice session. I don't know what the problem was but it was only 100 rounds so I just used them up. It was good clearing drill practice. Everything else (both new reloads and factory) have ran flawlessly.
I did polish the feed ramp just because after having the feeding issues.
Cheers,
Toby
-
I shot another local club match today and I took the overall again. The TSO makes me shoot and look better than I actually am. My fellow shooters were razzing me a bunch today. I guess I now have the target on my back...

My local club held it's first ever 3-Gun match last weekend. It was my first official 3-Gun match. I didn't have all the right gear. I picked up a shot shell holder just prior to the match. I really need an extended mag tube as reloading a shotgun is painfully slow.
Our club range doesn't have pistol/rifle bay's. We were forced to tear down and reconfigure the stage between each stage. This only allowed our group to shoot two stages (out of four planned).
It was challenging and fun.

Shot my local USPSA match yesterday. It was fun, I still have plenty to work on. I was moving a touch too fast to really call all shots. One of our club members really likes to put steel in front of no shoots. I ended up third overall and second in limited.

The weather wasn't cooperating and we were constantly repairing the courses due to wind. The temperature was reasonable but the wind wasn't. During teardown, we lost a couple of targets that managed to get carried up and away out of sight!
