I've been carrying a makarov in 380 for years and it's finally time to upgrade. I have a SP01 that I love. I'm a big fan of the CZ platform and I want one for carry. I've been saving and I'm fixing to buy in the near future.
I have $1500 to spend. What would you want to carry for that amount? What sights, what grips, what mods and who to build it?
I really don't intend to ever put a light on it, so I've mostly been considering a PCR, but I know there can be issues with cost and putting non factory sights on them. I have no problem carrying P01 if it means I can afford to have good sights, but it just seemed like extra bulk that I didn't need with the rail.

$1500 gets you a P-01 and a PCR so you don't have to choose. Or a fully cajunized one with upgraded sights. Or, Stuart from CZC posted a couple really nice Protek 1's for sale on Facebook a few days ago. Decisions, decisions. By the way, I couldn't decide between the PCR and the 01 for a while. Went with the 01 for no particular reason except my gut. I absolutely love it.

Are you a decocking person or a safety person?
You mentioned the bulk of the PO1,
Would you consider a RAMI?
Would you consider a clone?
The answers to these questions would narrow the field.

P-07. Lighter for carry

I would just list what my requirements/preferences are for a gun and then send the $1,500.00 check to Cajun or CZ Custom and they will send you back something really nice.
Personally, I would rather get 3 $500.00 or 2 $750.00 guns than a $1,500.00,,,,, but I am poor and cheap.

I resemble that remark. [emoji2]
Seriously though, like has been said, you need to decide safety or decocker and size. Then go from there. If you really want to spend a lot I'd call CZ Custom or CGW. They'll help you spend your money, and you'd get a super sweet pistol. [emoji6]

I'm going with a decocker, I'm pretty set on either a P01 or PCR. My SP01 was tuned up with a hammer and a few other parts years ago by a friend. My goal is to have a similarly nice trigger pull on my carry gun. So it's going to be a PCR or P01 tuned up by CGW or CZC. I was just wondering If anyone with experience had any specific things I should try to get or stay away from.

One thing that you already mentioned is the rear sights. They both have the same dove tail cut so both the PCR and P01 can use the same sights. The PCR will have a small gap from the step down in the factory sights but that is all. Some guys hate the gap, some don't mind.
The rail you already mentioned.
The PCR has an LCI.
FWIW, the P01 just felt better in my hand, that's the reason I chose mine.

Cz custom protek without a doubt.
-
Is the beaver tail the same on the PCR and P-01? Also, on a digital scale my 07 Duty weighs more than my 01, with and without a loaded mag. I know CZ USA says otherwise. Maybe the new 07 is lighter.
-
As mentioned... CZC Pro-Tek I or Pro-Tek II and CGW PO1 or PCR Copperhead style, would be a great carry upgrade.
-
Given your comments may I recommend ordering the CZ Custom PCR Custom.
IT IS IN STOCK, has nice trigger job with a comp hammer, springs an old style 85C trigger.
And its only $785.94, fit your preferred sights, and grips and you are DONE with lots of money for ammo.

I put TFX sights on my PCR was not a problem

I would never drop $1500.00 on a carry piece, nonetheless if were too, it wouldn't be a custom tuned PCR or PO1, it would be a Lightweight Commander in .45 ACP. I have a better suggestion, buy yourself a CZ, or Glock for $500.00, then take that extra $1000.00 and lay in 5-cases of 124 GR 9mm ammo(5000 rounds)and get busy shooting the gun you plan to stake your life upon...
-
I don't think you need to spend anywhere close to $1,500 on a carry gun. I see a carry gun as simple and robust; I don't know that I'd go all-in on tricking it out. A DA upgrade makes sense if you're going to carry hammer down, and the TruGlo TFX sights are really nice. That's about as far as I'd go.

I own a P01 and a P06. Both excellent guns, totally reliable. For EDC Icarry a Colt light weight commander 45 for under 1,000
-
im partial to the S&W MP Shield 9mm. nice and slim. 8+1. $379 + tax
-
I carry either a Glock 19 or a CZ P-01. My P-01 was in the $500 range. I added some mepro night sights (done by Cajun Gun Works) total cost around $100, and polished the internals following the instructions all over this site. I consider it a completely reliable carry piece and a joy to shoot with a fantastic trigger. I'd spend the access on a few holsters and a bunch of ammo and a couple extra mags. Just my .02.
-
I just did a trigger reduction reach and put on the Metpro True Dot night sights on my PCR. I notice that DA and SA was a little lighter due to the different axes of the 85 trigger for the RRT. Unless you shoot competition, you do not need any of the fancy gun smithing.
If you ever have to use a carry weapon. You will never feel the trigger or the recoil. You might not even hear or notice the bang. You will just pull it out point and shoot. You will then realize you're still alive; if you survived it.

Well gee, if you are taking suggestions off the reservation, I can recommend Beretta PX4SC for cc Beretta Nano for the pocket. Both have been stellar, with the PX4sc also being great for target shooting. The Nano is stiker fired but has a long hard trigger pull like DAO revolver that serves as the "safety".
Love for the hammer is what also turned me on to CZ. Been pondering the thought of a compact or pcr myself which would compete with the px4sc for carry duty at some point.

P07 (Gen 2) for sure
