Title: CZ82 grips -- gunsmithing?
Post by: JoePfeiffer on October 21, 2015, 08:29:03 PM
I'm looking at getting some replacement stock grips for my 82, and found what I thought was a very strange note at http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/19103_Grips-Cz-83-Plastic
"*GUNSMITH INSTALLATION IS REQUIRED FOR CZ 82*"  What differences would there be between the two models that would require gunsmithing to install on the 82?

That's a good question Joe.
I don't have an answer but I'll bet someone on here does.
I'll be interested to find out.

The grips are interchangeable and screw in and out easily.

Several years ago I had three or four CZ82 pistols and wanted to combine the ones that had the best looking finish with the best looking / least worn of the plastic grips.

Surprisingly, that idea was a 'no go'.  The grips on th newer she85 or she86 pistols interfered with the operation of the safety on the older she82 or she83 pistols - or, vice versa, I forget which.  I never took the time to figure out why, but just cleaned them all up and reinstalled the grips that fit and worked.

Probably a little gentle attention to the plastic with a file (aka: "gunsmithing"?)would have made them fit and function OK, but for whatever reason those grips were not interchangeable on those CZ82s.
