Title: CZ 24 pistol find and questions

This is my first post...be gentle.

Just found a CZ 24 with holster, no mag.  Had to ungunk the action but it seems to be in very good shape considering its age.

The biggest question is related to the top of the slide.  The manufacturer's name has been crosshatched out.  Would anyone here have any idea why, how or who did this? 

There was a mag with it, but I think it is the wrong one.  Pictures below.

Nice looking pistol. 

Sorry, but I have to say I've never seen the top of a slide on any CZ pistol cross hatched like that.

You're correct in that the mag is not for this pistol, it's for a CZ 27.  On the other hand, the mags are pretty much interchangeable between them and should work.

I don't know about the pre-WWII CZ pistols, but some pistols will have cross-hatching or similar to cut down glare from a smooth, polished top surface of the pistol.

No pre-war CZ pistols had a glossy or even smooth tops to their slides.

Thanks for everyone's input.

The top mystery continues, but there is good news.  The mag works!  So does the pistol!  Put 20 rounds through it yesterday.

But there is one problem.  The catch that makes up the mag retention/release moves enough that it sometimes will not catch the mag.  I can pull it down and have it engage but that is not the way it is supposed to be.  Is there any way to reposition or tighten that spring?

I have gotten as much interest about the holster as I have the pistol.  I have seen a couple of different holsters pictured so I am not sure where this one came from.  There are no markings on the outside or inside that I can find.

If anyone else has experience with these CS 24s chime in and let me know your experience.

George and guys,

I'm speculating here, but I have seen ex-Czech service weapons that were made during the occupation and had the WafffenAmt markings x'd out. Only one or two of them.

The CZ 24 is a really nice pistol. It was originally designed as the Mauser M1916 in 9mm parabellum but Mauser didn't go ahead with it. Rock Island just sold one of the Mauser prototypes, and it's a ringer for a CZ 24 (even has the same slanted serrations) but it's physically larger.

The dual safety controls are inherited from the Mauser pocket pistols. As early as 1907 these were in Mauser designs that some of the Feederle brothers and Josef Nickl worked on. I'll take a look at my exploded views and see if I can guess what your magazine catch problem is, but a 90 year old spring probably isn't helping.
