Well, hello, I'm new to the forum. I just bought my first CZ pistol, a P-09 Suppressor Ready 9mm in Urban Grey. I'm really happy with the fit and finish, the night sights, feel of the weapon, slide and trigger. However, the gun that I received is not even operable. First thing I noticed was that the two interchangeable backstraps were missing. Ok, I thought, this is easily replaced under warranty. Yesterday I took it to the range and when I pulled the trigger, nothing happened. I thought it might have been a light primer strike or a a FTF but when I ejected the round, there wasn't even a mark on the primer. Upon further inspection, the firing pin wasn't protruding from the slide at all. I took the slide apart and removed the FP to find out that it's about half the length it should be. This is unacceptable from CZ to ship a non-functional fireaarm with broken components. Has anyone else had a similar experience with their firing pin? I have never dry fired the weapon and the first time the hammer was dropped, a round was chambered. How has your experience with CZ customer service been with this type of issue?

CZ customer service is great to deal with. Call them. By the way where did you find that gun. Didn't think those were out yet. How about some pics of it???
-
+1 for CZ customer service. Sorry to hear about your issue but they will no doubt get you squared away.
-
That's a bummer! My experience with CZ customer service for needing a sear replacement on a rifle a couple years ago was very good and relatively painless other than having to take the rifle to the FedEx office with the prepaid label. They will take good care of you. If CZ UB wasn't being sloppy with the QC, then that opens up possibilities about the chain of custody to the final consumer [emoji30]. Keep us informed...and photos please.

Some of the first parts I replace on new CZs are the springs and firing pin. This is after I broke three TRS and two FP over the past three years. All of them OEM parts. I wised up and replaced them all with improved ones from CGW and CZC.

They are out.. it seems to me like they were out for a limited run and I picked up the last one because I haven't found any more since I found that one through wikiarms. It was towards the end of the list with the higher priced items I believe I paid 570 for it. I went ahead and ordered a new FP from Cajun hopefully it holds up. Here are some pics

If you run a search for urban grey p-09 on slickguns, it shows 2 ads posted 1 month ago that are both out of stock. No retailers have them anymore.
-
You didn't open the gun and check it when you received it for transfer at your FFL? When I buy a gun from a web dealer, I open the sealed factory box and inspect the weapon before completing the transfer. At that point, you don't have to accept it if something's wrong. Some local dealers open and handle customer guns, I've seen one pass them around to his buddies that were hanging out. I would never do business with a store like that.
-
Don't they test fire these at the factory?

Yes I inspected it but I didn't go so far as to push on the pin and see if it protrudes out from the hole in the slide. Never thought the firing pin could be broken on day one.

My thoughts exactly.. I ran a search to see what marking would indicate that it was test fired but came up with nothing.
-
CZ ships a test target with each gun. If you are missing the test target and the back straps something is fishy on the dealer end. Does the Urban model come with backstraps?

I've never had a "sealed" box on delivery or at a shop. Closest I ever came to that was a rifle wrapped in layers of bubble wrap about 6" thick with a mailing label shipped to me from a gun broker dealer. Couldn't even tell it was a gun. That was all the shipping protection he used. My dealer didn't even open it up to confirm the serial number and put it in his book. Called and told my to come down before close of business. After he showed it to me and we took lots of pictures I spent 15 minutes getting it out of the cocoon. Gun was in perfect condition, but still think the dealer was an idiot.

It's advertised as coming with backstraps. I didn't know about a test target. That's 3 items missing or defective. FP, Target & Backstraps. Very strange.
-
Firing pins usually dont break like that. I would say gun was made non-firing for some reason.
then got into the distribution network.
Just replace the firing pin.
-
For transfers, my local guy opens the shipping box and records the serial number off of the factory box. That way the buyer is the first to handle his weapon and there is no finger pointed at him if something is wrong. Everything is done on camera as well. My FFL is a great guy, guess I'm spoiled. To the O.P., I wasn't suggesting that you should have checked the FP, but the missing back straps would have been a clue and I would have either refused it or had my FFL on the phone with the shipping dealer. Now that you've accepted it, it's yours. You can't exactly blame CZ for shipping a gun in this condition since you don't really know if they did. Do you know your FFL, did he say the box was sealed when he received it? I hope it works out for you.
-
Sounds like you got a 'demo' gun. Call CZ-USA with the serial # on Monday and have them replace it.
-

I nooticed the backstraps but thought it would be no problem to get them replaced and it wasn't a deal killer. I'm thinking Grendel is right. The fp looks like a clean cut to make it inoperable for demo purposes. I wonder why the retailer got something like that.
-
+1 Grendel - "Sounds like you got a 'demo' gun".
From what I understand, no one has the new "Urban Grey Suppressor Ready" for sale yet. Retailers have some for display. I did see GragAGun listing them last month on Slickguns (2-09-2016), but I think just to be notified when they are available. I'm still waiting for my P07 Urban Grey Suppressor Ready, since middle of Jan.

Makes sense that it was used at a show or something. Hopefully CZ gets you your back straps. Good looking gun by the way. Bet it's a while before everyone else gets theirs.
-
Yay!! This is good news! 8) Glad I was able to snag one up early. The 21+1 capacity really sold me on it plus high tritium, threaded barrel all for under 600. I know CZ makes a quality product which is why I was so shocked. This makes a little bit more sense. The FP is already on its way from CGW. Ill give a range report when she's up and running next weekend.

I was thinking the same thing. That pin looks machined down not broken.
-
I have one more question. At first I thought it was part of the design and a possible safety feature, but now when I think about it I wonder if it could possibly make this "display model" unsafe. When a round is chambered, the head and rim of the case are visible between the barrel and slide from the side. Is this normal on a P-09? I could see this helping as a loaded chamber indicator if it is, but I want to make sure before I fire this weapon.

Congrats on buying a great firearm. Extremely accurate, nice under recoil, super durable, and only gets better with CGW parts.

That firing pin looks like it was milled that way. I agree with Stuart, looks like it was made not to fire. Might be a demo gun that got mixed in with the "regular" guns.
-
Did anyone mention that don't look like urban grey, looks like FDE to me, which is still fine. What year is it stamped?

I believe it's the lighting.
Here are a couple of pictures I took at the 2016 Shot Show of the new "Urban Greys":

Second that. Broken pin looks broken, not cut. Loaded round is visible from right side. Nice touch. Do pencil test next time:) No worries, mate, CGW FP is better anyway.

There is a stamp to the left of the crest marked 16. Assuming it stands for 2016. Rbschneider is right and so are you it even looks like FDE to me sometimes. It's definitely CZ's Urban Grey which they state has some FDE in the dye. I'm happy with my luck even though have a hoop or two to jump through, I'm sure others would jump at the chance, all things considered. CZ said they have no backstraps in Urban Grey. I'm interested in your opinions. Should I have them send black ones or just wait and get the right color? It might be a while.

I would definitely go black, in fact, even if it came with Urban Grey backstraps, I would have changed them for black. I like the contrast and it matches the contrast from the slide lock and decocker. I've seen a few FDE with black straps they look really good. I plan to do this when I get my Urban Grey P-07.
-
Funny, I was playing with the idea of the black backstraps myself:

Yeah now that's what I like! Definitely going to go with black backstraps. I was thinking it but now that I see it like that just WOW. I love how it looks with the mag extension. Thanks guys!

I am waiting on this gun too, keep us posted OP

Same 😞 Any updates on when they may ship?
-
Ok here's the update. To start with, I got my CGW FP today and put it in. Did the pencil test and the gun is now g2g. I also got a response from CZ confirming that the firing pin was cut to be used as a display. The retailer I purchased it from simply made a mistake and shipped it thinking it was stock and a working firearm. Here's the quote which will also answer members questions about the release date. "The P-09 that you purchased from Riflegear was one of only 6 that we have actually shipped. The reason that it slipped out with the cut firing pin was because they were intended for display. I apologize for the inconvenience. I can ship you a new firing pin, and in the near future get you your backstraps. You are very lucky to have this item, as the flow of these new models is very delayed and will not see them in any number until May."
-
Lucky fella! No extra charge for a cool story to tell. :)
-
Wow so not shipping till May now? Great😞
-
It is UBER COOL! O0
-
I read somewhere that Urban Gray is a lighter shade of FDE. The OP's pictures are the first ones I've seen where the color looks appealing to me. Nice gun and I can't wait to get a pair of those sights for my P-09
-
"I read somewhere that Urban Gray is a lighter shade of FDE."
Per CZ-USA's website "urban grey (a mix of grey and FDE)".
-
I currently have a FFIII on a Springer mount on mine. It is accurate, but I have a hulluve time finding the dot!
I would kkinda like a tall front sight that would give something similar to a lower 1/3 cowitness on an AR platform for quick reference.
If this could be done it might be worth it to me to have the slide machined to mount the sight lower in the slide.
I just do not like the current options.
-
Urban Grey is awesome.

Range report: So I took the P-09 out yesterday to test the firing pin and put what I believe was the very first 150 rounds through the gun. The trigger was crisp and felt like it was made out of crystal in SA and was fairly managable in DA. The feel of the gun in your hand really helps with the trigger pull I think. The high sights shoot slightly low at 20 yards POA but if you place the circle directly on the target they are dead on. Recoil was wonderful and barely noticable. The 21+1 capacity almost threw me off because I kept thinking I was empty or would be empty on the next round and yet it just kept shooting. Felt like I was in a Hollywood actio movie. O0 Overall I'm really liking my first CZ and will definitely have a cool story to tell about it. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure this out! ;D
-
Glad it's fixed. Enjoy!

That's how the sights are designed, it's a combat sight picture. Sight image 3 in the picture below.

Exactly, using the sight picture from image 3, the pistol was scary accurate.
