Title: A challenging exercise for open sight shooting.
Post by: DannyCreasy on April 22, 2016, 01:12:20 PM
Usually the USBR target is fired with an optically sighted rimfire unlimited, custom, or sporter rifle from a distance of 50 yards.

On a whim, I started shooting it at 50 feet with my open sighted CZ sporters a few years ago (not peeps, apertures, ghost-rings, etc. ? only the factory open sights).  The match developed a little following on RFC as an online match.

Range report:

243-4X
Danny Creasy
CZ 452 UltraLux, Wolf Match Target
Caldwell front rest and rear bag
Mid 60s temps with very light winds and good light (optimum conditions!)

One of our neighbors, Macy, kept me company:

My set-up:

I forgot my spotting scope, so the little 10X Leopold field glasses saved the day once again.  I used them like a monocular to check hits and misses after each shot.

I shoot this with Danny and the rest of the guys over at RFC.

50 feet sounds like a walk in the park...trust me...it's not easy.

I too have shot this at RFC and it is a tough target with 25 shots to keep on the bullseye!
Best I could do was 224/3x with my lh lux... Front rest only.
