Title: 97B OPTIMAL BULLET VELOCITY

Hey, gang.  Has anyone honed in on a velocity range for the 97 that produces accurate results w/ either 200 or 230 grain bullets?  For instance, in my SP-01 Shadow, my groups get better at 900+ fps w/ a 147 grain FP bullet.  That equates to at least 132 PF.  However, w/ the 97, I'm not concerned w/ having to achieve any sort of PF, while keeping the recoil at a minimum.  I'm just interested in accuracy.

Mike,  JoeL and others here will have the experience,  but will probably want to know the nose shape your using--RN ?

Hey, Mike. I just got a new 97 B and have been loading 45 auto for only 6 months for three other 45's. My best jacketed and plated loads for all these 45's tend to be at  mid to higher higher velocities loadings of the faster powders like Bullseye or Titegroup, plus Unique in the 230's. These loads in the manuals give about 900fps for 185's, 850-ish for 200's and 850fps with Unique and 230's. Since max pressure for 45 auto is only around 17,000 psi, slower powders don't seem to work well for me. I don't shoot enough lead bullets to know what velocities work for them.

What I have on hand are 230 grain RN coated lead bullets and a whole bunch of Ramshot Competition.  I'm hoping this combo works.
