Title: Which CZ 527
Post by: doc171 on June 21, 2016, 02:37:52 PM
Wife of 45 years says no more hand guns but did not mention another rifle. So, which 527 in .223?  Opinions please.......

If your looking for a walking varmint and come as you are small to mid size game rifle the carbine is a great choice. If your planning to shoot mostly at a range with a bit of varmint or game hunting the American is a better choice. If you plan to do lots of varmint shooting and some range shooting the varmint is likely the way to go.

To me the best all around is the carbine with a 2-7 scope, only because I use mine for varmint, hog, turkey and rabbit hunting, often on the same walk.

I have a .223 527 Carbine that I absolutely love. It's accurate and reliable. Last week I removed the 2-7x32mm CenterPoint scope that I had been using for some time and replaced it with a 3-9x32mm scope that has an adjustable objective lens (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0090P7SXI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=4153IGRSVD2C&coliid=I1NLUZ4RRCNPX0). I already had the same scope on a CZ 455 Trainer and was very pleased with it, especially the AO feature. I installed the new scope and did a quick zero tweak at 15 yards using a laser bore sighter as a starting point. Next day I was off to the range. Here are the results after zeroing at each indicated range. I think you can see why I recommend this carbine. BTW, all shots were with remanufactured, 55 gr, pointed soft point ammo.

5 shot group, 100 yds. Called the flier - old guy's twitch, bleep it. :o

Does the 527 carbine come with the redesigned bolt handle now?

I had a carbine at one time, but I actually prefer my American.  Seems to handle and balance better for me.

Pretty sure all current production 527's have the new bolt handle and the 1:9 twist barrel.

I deliberated about the same thing, and brought home a brand new 527 Carbine in .223

Couldn't be happier. Going to get a set of QR rings and put a 2X7 on it.
