Title: Love the CZ82 military pouch holster
Post by: imarangemaster on June 27, 2016, 02:08:44 PM
I had picked one up some time ago, just because I wanted one to go with my CZ83.  I have found, however, it is the perfect way to discreetly carry the weapon while hiking.  My wife and I spend a lot of time hiking and back packing in the mountains (Sierra Nevada in the Tahoe Region). Being a retired LEO, I always go armed.  Usually I carry my Glock 19 in a drop leg holster, so it doesn't interfere with the waist bely for the pack.  In this liberal, gun hating state, however, it is a little too "Martial Looking" for the Friends of the Chipmunks.  More than once I have encountered other hikers or back packers who stare at it, and even ask "why are you carrying a gun?????"  I tell them "Because I can!" and then explain I am a retired LEO and I am supposed to.  Barf....

I had been keeping my CZ83 in the pouch holster, with the spare magazine and cleaning rod, in my Search and Rescue pack so I have something on me when I am on a search. (They prohibit open carry on searches, even if you are retired LEO!).  Yesterday, my wife and I did a 4 mile hike to Island Lake in the Grouse Lakes basin, and I replaced the Glock 19 with the CZ 83 in the pouch holster on my belt/  The pack waist belt rode well above it, it made the pistol handy, and very discreet.  When we stopped for Chinese sit down on the way home, I left the pouch holster on, and nobody even noticed it.

I load it with Buffalo Bore 90 grn JHP +P flying ashtrays that give about 300 ft lbs ME from the CZ.  That's about what a standard velocity 9mm generates from a 3.5 inch barrel.

Pic is an example, not mine, though.

Avoid Central/Eastern European establishments; might set off some old Bohemian's flashbacks [emoji1]. Those are nice, distinctive holsters (for those in the know). There is a fairly recent photo of Czech military personnel that haven't converted to the Phantom yet shooting CZ 82s on a range and wearing these holsters.

Actually, that is a picture of someone else's.  I have the modern "trigger guard with a spur (2015 production).  I have a lanyard, but need to order one of the CZ82 mainspring plugs.

I really like this holster as well. I especially appreciate that it is ambidextrous! The original that came with my CZ has seen better days. The replacement is like new and should serve for a long time. However, I dislike the pale leather and would like to darken it.
Does anyone know about the finish of the holtser? Is there anything that needs to b removed in order to stain it?

Thanks in advance!

It's Pigskin and if u use Mink Oil (Paste) it will darken and soften but if U want to stain it Shoe Dye works great however black is easier to look all matching then brown!

Nice!  After seeing these pics I'd like to have one of these.

Does anyone know where they are available?

Ha, I'm not far behind you.  I paid two twenty for the pistol.   8)

I bought mine at a gun show and couldn't get my money out fast enough.  It came with two magazines and two boxes of ammo also.
I got it home and proceeded to go through it for a clean and lube and found it in excellent condition and has no import markings!  I mostly carry it while out and around my property, so the leather pouch is going to be perfect for that.

I bought mine from SOG, and I haven't seen them in stock at SOG or Classic Firearms since then. IIRC it had the pouch holster, a spare magazine and  the cleaning rod.

Last time I ordered from CDNN, they had leather vz82/CZ83 magazine pouches for $2 each.
