Ordered a CZ97BD this afternoon. I'd sold off my MechTech/Glock 17 carbine and a Ruger LC380 that my wife never carries, figured I'd put the money into a pistol I've wanted to try out for some time. Looks like the pistol comes with aluminum grips, are they reasonably comfortable or do I need to get a set of rubber grips?

Congrats on the new CZ97BD. It would depend on your hand size. There are thicker and thinner alum grips available. The recoil is very manageable because of the weight of the pistol so it come down to how your hand is configured and what is comfortable for you. I have a CZ97B in aluminum and in wood. Both are great. I don't have any grips in rubber for the 97B.

I have large, but not huge hands, I wear large surgical or work gloves. I had to put standard grips on my Dan Wesson V-Bob because the thin ones didn't work quite right for me.

I replaced the thin aluminum grips on my 97BD with the factory rubber set. That fits my hand better than the thin and flat originals.
-
I wear a size (L) glove also and found the stock aluminum 97 grip acceptable.
For the target shooting, I preferred the signature feel of the CZ 75 grip with palm swell so I did change to grips to KN with that feature. The stock rubber and others like KN provide nice options.

I have the aluminum ones on mine and love them !!

Pre-Gratz on the 97BD.
I went rubber, the factory aluminum grips made the 97 feel like a 2x4. The rubber grips are cheep as well.

The thin aluminum "cheese grater" (CGW terminology, love it!) are stunningly beautiful, highly tractive, and make the CZ 97 BD feel like a single stack. I love mine, wouldn't think of changing unless perhaps the more "gaudy" CGW silver ones: https://cajungunworks.com/product/40112-cz-97-silver-aluminum-grips/ at some point perhaps. They have other cosmetic options as well, under search term "97 grips."
Enjoy your flagship handgun; good call!

The thin aluminum grips that came on my 97BD were fine, the weapon handled great with them but I have the standard rubber CZ grips on my other CZ's and so put a set of rubber CZ on the 97 and like that a bit better, likely just use to the feel.
just depends on your likes and feel.

The rubber hogue wrap around grip is the most comfortable so far for my BDE. I just ordered a 97BE in single action and I think I will try the Nill Sport grips on it when it arrives.

I've had a change of heart, and have now reverted to the earlier design 19119 rubber grips:

Evidently an even earlier (original?) issue featured increased palm swell but was flattened to what is now the 19119.

If anyone has the (earliest?) rubber palm swell CZ 97 grips going unused for having been replaced with something sexier, please PM me, I'd like to buy them from you. Please note that I'm NOT looking for the 19119 style which can be readily purchased at CZ-USA and CGW.
