Title: New Kadet Coversion Problem
Post by: BSanborn on January 15, 2002, 12:27:16 PM
I tried my new CZ-75B last weekend.  Too cold... only shot 50 rounds.

One problem was that with 10 rounds in the clip... the slide would stall trying to push the first bullet in to the chamber.  The nose of the lead bullet was stalled on the ramp to the barrel.  A push on the end of the slide.... and it loaded successfully.   Only happens on first round... normal operation after that.

Do you think it because of the new mags.  They were very hard to load on the 7-10 cartridge???

Only one hangfire in 50.   I pulled the hammer back to hit it again still no fire.  The strike of the firing pin seemed hard and normal.  I put the cartridge back in the top of the magazine and tried again this time it fired.

            TIA

My kit worked flawlessly.  Well, one FTE and on misfire out of 300 Rem bulk Wal-Mart ammo.  The misfire was struck well with the firing pin, a bad round.  I didn't have any problem getting 10 in the mags.  Too bad they don't have Kadet hi-caps.

Does your slide fit very tight? It almost sounds to me like the slide can't overcome the resistance of the compressed mag spring pressure on that first round. If that's the case, you could *carefully* file the slide rail a bit or just load 9 rounds until it wears in on it's own. I had to file the rail some on mine in oder to get the slide to cycle.

Also, I would highly recommend taking the mags apart and cleaning them good with Break-Free CLP. Scrub them good with a the cleaning brush that came with the kit, let them soak a while then wipe or blow out all traces of the CLP. It's hard to do with the Kadet mags because they are so small, but it will make them operate smoother.

The failure to fire could be a weak strike or just a bad primer on the round. Check your fired brass to make sure your getting good hard strikes on the rim. Also check to see if you have the newer chisel tip firing pin, it is supposed to prevent these problems.

I talked with the guy at the gun shop who sold me my gun and who owns a CZ 75B and an Kadet kit of his own.  He advised polishing the ramp where the bullet is stalling.  He also said I should do this to the 9mm barrel.  He advised using a Dremel tool with a small buffing head and Fitz or buffing compound.

I bought a box of CCI 22LR Pistol Match.  These are very well made and  the bullet is lubed with a waxy substance.  I want to try these as a "benchmark" high quality ammo and see if the problem goes away.

I will report back after I try the polishing and CCI ammo this weekend.

When I got mine, it was pretty gunked up with grease or thick oil.  It was not happy until I gave the entire kit a nice bath.  It was cold when I got it last winter, it did what yours is doing.  If not a bath, the other remedies may work.

Sounds like mine when I got it,  the  shipping oil or grease was kind of tacky,  bathed it with Break Free,  dried it out, lubed lightly with Triflow.  works like a charm with only a occasional stove jam.
