Title: Safety issue
Post by: andrewjdewitt on August 27, 2016, 07:38:42 PM
I had bought a old cz83 and just got it from getting it cerokoated.  Took it to the range and fed flawless and extremely accurate.  But it had one problem... and a pretty serious one because I am wanting to carry this pistol.   The safety randomly engages as I am shooting.  I think it is too looses and my thumb  brushes is while firing.  It happened probably 10-15x on a box of 50. How do I tighten this or what do I do?

I think you hit the nail on the head.  I did the same thing with a Kahr CW45 that had a weak slide stop spring. Just bumping it under recoil with my thumb under recoil locked the slide.  I'd get a new safety latch spring.

This thread has instructions for disassembly.
Scroll down to the part about the safety to see the parts involved.

Make certain the ball mentioned in the linked article does not have any Ceracoat on it.
Also make certain the the spring and sliding plate (that engages the ball) are in good shape and can move freely (not hung up on Ceracoat).
On my 82 it was also necessary to bend the safety slightly inward to keep the plate from flopping around.
