Title: Scorpion NFA engraving and polymer question
Post by: Gritz on October 04, 2016, 07:48:07 PM
I was at my engraver earlier and a question came up about using a laser on the polymer. Anyone have any issues with a laser melting the polymer in an unusual way. Did anyone have to have their information manually routed instead of using a laser?

I gave him the original grip that came from the factory as I replaced mine with the 922r part so he could "test" it. Does anyone know if this is the same material that is used in the side where it will need to be engraved. I appreciate any insight.

I had mine laser engraved, it turned out really well. It's not very "deeply" engraved but i didnt have any issues with melting. Not sure about the plastic being the same as the grip, but i would assume so.

Laser engraving plastic is a known quantity. There are quite a few shops that can and have done it with very good results.

I'd imagine that engraving plastic requires different settings than engraving steel or aluminum, but since that's not my job or expertise, I don't know for sure.

The fact that your vendor is a little sketchy on it should bring pause. If the attempt on the spare grip goes wrong, you might consider looking elsewhere.

Thanks for all of the input. Had it done today at a local trophy shop with good results. He did 3 total passes on 50% power and it turned out great. Thanks everyone!

for anyone that is still searching, I can stand behind the earlier recommendation for Tarheel state firearms.  Ive had several AR lowers done there and just recently got back my scorpion upper.  They do a very quality job with very quick turnaround time.

Call Tar Heel State Firearms.  They offer laser engraving on metal and polymer.

I had considered engraving my info on the metal serial number plate if I sbr my scorpion.

Here is an evo engraving they did featured on their product services page.

Hey, did you get it engraved locally? If so what shop? I'm also in GA.

I don't know where you are in GA, but I can vouch for Ace Laser Engraving in Flowery Branch - $20 per receiver engraved.
