Hello, I plan on buying a 455 sometime in the next month and I plan on using it as a woods small game gun in Alaska. That being said, the standard wood stock is coming right off, going right on the Classified section here, and I am picking up a Boyd's hunter stock for its replacement.
Now the big question: should I get a varmint heavy barrel or the standard barrel? I am going to be cutting the barrel down to 16.3" and threading it specifically for my .22 can that will have its stamp arriving sometime in the next century, and the threaded barrel version doesn't have comparable threads without an adaptor.
Is the varmint barrel profile worth it for a suppressor, or should I go the lighter route and get the standard barrel for the weight savings? Most of the time, I won't be hauling the rifle for miles through the woods, but it will get its fair share of grouse and ground critters.

The current production CZ's are 1/2x28. What thread is your suppressor?
I'd always pick the lighter barrel for hunting.
-
The threads are correct, but the thread length is wrong. I need 1/2x28x.400", and the threaded barrel version is 1/2x28x.600". I don't want to shim it since that can lead to tolerance stacking, so I was going to buy the std version for $70 less, thread it for 100, and basically be at a wash if I were to get someone to make me a .200" shim or get an adaptor.
I try to buy the heavier barrel for suppressor use, but the Spencer 2 weighs next to nothing. There is a 2lb difference between the std and varmint barrel, but I don't know how much of a difference there would be between the two for a 16.3" barrel vs 20".

Gotcha

I have two 455's in .17 HMR; both threaded, and suppressed. One is a 20" fluted varmint barrel; the other a standard 'American' profile barrel cut down to 16.5".
I run SiCo Sparrows on both.
I have noted no major difference in either rifle with or without the suppressors.

I've swapped glass since that picture was taken: current specs of the rifles without suppressors on them:
CZ455, 16.5" sporter barrel, Nikon Prostaff 5 4.5-18FCD. Factory walnut stock. Unloaded weight 6lb 13oz
CZ455, 20" varmint fluted barrel, Nikon Monarch 3 6-24FCD. Boyds 'Tacticool Stock.' Unloaded weight 9lb 1oz
For me, when I go out to eastern MT killing gophers, and I want to go walking around for a while; the lighter rifle always goes. a few pounds starts to be noticed on a 5 or 6 mile walk.
The other benefit of getting the threads cut your way, is you can get them cut to SiCo's spec (available on their website) so the cut is made for the oring, so you're not constantly chewing up orings.

My CZ455 Tactical shoot's light's out with no change in 0 when suppressor is added. I absolutelyu love the accuracy using Aguilla 22 lr Competition pistol ammo. Very consistant accuracy and great sound suppression. A buddy like mine so much he got one for himself. CZ quality is tough to beat!

I ended up buying a 455 synthetic with a 20.5" barrel for $303 shipped. I am going to get it cut to 16.25" and threaded for my supressor. The weight savings should be enough for me since I don't like lugging around weight I don't have to.

Maybe I should not look at pictures of CZ rifles (before I get a fever). A friend and I do not have rimfire CZ's but he is thinking (thinking too hard) if he wants a 221 Fireball or some other caliber (e.g. 222 or Hornet or or Fireball thinking again).

If it were me, I would go with the standard barrel.

The gun is coming together! SOld the crappy plastic stock and ordered a Boyds. It should be here in a few days. I also chopped the barrel to 16.25" and threaded it for the SiCo Specer 2 that is currently in NFA jail.

you wont be dissapointed. I have an american profile cut and threaded sico spec to 16". it also wears a spectre 2 and its my favorite rifle probably.
-
What did you use for the stock? CZ walnut or something else?
-
awesome - you won't be disappointed - just an awesome, handy little rifle.
I still can't figure out why CZ isn't offering the 16" barreled threaded .17 as a factory option - it is the absolute king of varmint slaying.

The stock came! I also didn't know it before the pic was taken, but the DIP picatiny rail also came in the mail too. Good day!

Ok, finally got it out and running today. Trigger and everything totally stock except for the rifle stock and the cut/threaded barrel. Tack driver. No problem hitting clays at 200 yards, or sideways clays (read side profile) at 150. I am now thinking of getting a more powerful scope just because, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself. Now, onto a tac knob since cycling the bolt leaves my knuckles a little sore after a little bit.

Which knob are you going with?

I ended up buying this. I have not installed it yet, but when I do, I will get some pics up. It may or may not clear my scope with my rings, but the glades website says it should since I have medium rings and they tried it will low rings. Who knows.
