Title: Die Locking Ring

I hate the Dillon lock rings on my 550.   What alternatives do you all recommend.

I use only two types of lock rings, Hornady and RCBS.  I have the die wrenches for both.  In my not so humble opinion, the Hornady lock ring is the best on the market, hands down.  The RCBS is close behind, and would be better without the brass set screw, but as long as you don't get ham fisted on the brass set screw, they work fine, too.

Hope this helps.

Which Dillon "lock rings" are you talking about?

Their dies come with 1-1/8", but they also sell an optional 1" size. Due to the tight fit on the 550B tool head (the die holder) you almost HAVE to use the smaller ones, especially if you want to loosen 1 die at a time.

With the smaller 1" lock rings you can get a 1" box end wrench over the die and adjust individual dies at will. I use a 26mm box end out of an old Honda motorcycle tool kit. Works great.
