So I saw 3 out of the supposedly 500 steel framed cz compact handguns at my local gun store. I was really tempted to pick one up then and there, but the safety made me hesitate. It's extremely mushy and it doesn't have the positive click that my Tristar has. Is this normal? Are there after market parts like a detent ball that I can buy to fix this?

How much was it at your LGS?

Was about $600 on the sticker. It seems to be cheaper online, but there's no wait if I pick it up there. I don't mind the extra $50 or so since I can shoot it at their range too if I decide to buy. The only thing stopping me is that safety. It's so mushy.

Mine isn't mushy but it is very thin. I've seen someone on this forum put a larger safety on theirs.

It's the grease they have on it out of the factory. Once you get it and give it the initial cleaning it will click like you're used to. I've worked on 6 now and they all came out with the positive clicking of the safety.
The safety is thin. The tactical sport safety fits it. If you buy one of the pistols and want the larger safety just let us know and we can point ya to the threads with all the info you need.
It's a mighty fine shooter and everyone who has shot mine has bought one for themselves. My local FFL just felt mine when I picked it up and bought one.

Also DS Perman offers stronger safety detent springs. These spring can make the safty levers feel more positive. Here is a link to a wright up i did on the part a while back. I assume that the SP-01 Compact only uses one spring on the left side like an SP-01. The short dust cover models use 2, one on each side so you can get a little more lever weight increase out of them..

Thanks guys. If I pick one up, I'll be sure to clean up the grease on the safety. I don't mind the size much as I rather like the sleek look. Might look into stronger springs though.
Also, is there a way to remove the the right side safety switch? I sort of prefer one sided controls.

I am not aware of any easy way to accomplish this, like a simple part swap. But i do believe it is possible. Ill bet the custom shops can do it, it may be worth giving them a call.

Ahh it's probably not worth the effort for me then. Might just toss on some fiber optics and call it a day.
