Title: CZ 75B in .40 Cal Purchase Consideration
Post by: Cousin Vinnie on February 25, 2017, 09:23:50 AM
A local fellow has a CZ 75B in .40 cal for sale that is BNIB, and I was looking for any feedback from the forum members. I have not seen it yet and was wondering if the .40 is as solid as the 9mm version? Any concerns I should be aware of?
I already have a couple 75's in 9 mm and just looking to diversify. Also, does CZ make a .357 Sig conversion barrel?
Thanks,

No conversion barrel available.......the 40 is just as solid as the 9mm, if your looking for diversity it's a good avenue to go. If I'm not mistaken, CZ isn't making 40's in the steel/alloy frames anymore only the composites.....exception could be the sporting/comp platforms.  I see the steel frame 75's in 40 occasionally, not too often...always "think" about getting one just never do, trying to only keep a couple calibers.  ;)

I have the CZ75B in 40 S&W and have found it to be accurate and ultra-reliable.  I have literally never had a feeding or ejection issue with either of mine (I have two).  CZ does 40 better than anyone!

Mine is a laser.

Around 2003 some (like mine) had an issue with weak extractor springs which is easily cured with a Wollf XP replacement.

I have one that I converted to SAO and added all the Cajun Spices. They are one of the softest shooting .40 caliber guns you will find and with the 10X bushing mine does 1.5" at 25 yards with most any ammo I feed it. I love mine!

The standard 75B is still listed as available in .40 for 2017. They did discontinue the SP-01 Tactical in .40 this year. Too bad, I really love mine and it is the perfect gateway gun to get people hooked on .40 cal.

The standard 75b in 40 is pretty good, mine had the best fitting from the factory of any CZ I've had.

Personally I feel the 40b frame handles better than the standard 75b frame, even my .40 RAMI is more comfortable to shoot when it comes to full power 40SW loads.

But... if I saw a good deal on one, I'd probably pick up another.

It is a bummer about the SP01 Tac, if I were to pick only one .40, that would be it.

I have both. Bought the 9mm for my wife, and the .40 for me. The .40 has a guide rod and safety on both sides, so it's good for lefties, I guess.
I really like mine.

.40 on the top, 9 mm below.

I absolutely LOVE my 75B .40!  I shoot USPSA Limited with it.  In my experience, it has been more accurate than all my 9mm CZ's.

Yep!

I got mine for limited 10 here in CA, and tge SP01 for production.  Gotta say the 75b in .40 has been my most accurate CZ!

Quick question for the forum, my 40 came with2 - 10 round magazines but I see Meg-Gar has flush fitting 12 rounds. Anyone have any experience with the 12 round mags? They have 10 round mags, but they are listing them as "restricted"??

12 round mags are full capacity.

10 rounders are for those in 'restricted' states.

OK, now here's the question for ya Vinnie:
Does the 9mm Barrel from your Stainless lock-up in the 40 cal Slide ?
If so, you can buy another 9mm Barrel and have a Pistolsmith chamber it into the 357Sig
http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/0420049201_Barrel-9mm-7585
And here's a plus....The consensus is; In most cases, you can use the same Recoil Spring and Mags as your 40 cal

Quick question for the forum, my 40 came with 2 - 10 round magazines

Let me guess;
The Pistol came from a Komifornia type State; CA, MA, MD, IL, HI, NJ, NY

Here's my two cents worth: Get It! I have the SAO and the safety model B. Both are superbly accurate and reliable. I Cajunized both and they are excellent shooters.  ;D

I purchased the pistol from a GS in northern VA, but I was told it did come from another GS in Maryland, hence the 10 round mags :(
No worries, I'll just order some full capacity ones and peddle the 10 round or keep them as range mags, (Not that I would CCW this pistol)
I will have to check if the 9mm barrel locks up in the 40 and report back.
Thanks again to all who responded with valued information.

Really thinking hard about a SA 40. CZ Custom has them now.
And could have them add sights to my liking.
Would use it as a target gun for various games at my club.
Shooting at ranges from 10 to 50 yards.
My understanding is that, with the right load, these are quite accurate.
Any experiences in this area would be greatly appreciated.

The 75B SA is a pretty neat gun!

I'm not quite sure what your question is, but here are some thoughts...

As far as 'the right load', my experience has been that the .40 SW CZ's are more tolerant of ammo types than other guns (compared with finding the "sweet spots" in Brownings, FNP's, and G22's with different loads).  My luck has been that the CZ leaded less than the others and was less susceptible to loss of accuracy over time compared with the other three.  Personally, I have been using Oregon Trail's laser cast bullets over a full dose of Blue Dot or Power Pistol, they have a 180gr truncated cone.  But there are plenty of others just as good or better.

As far as SA vs standard, the difference is largely in the ergonomics, upswept tang, thumb safety, trigger, and mechanically there is little difference.  Both are greatly enhanced by addition of CZC or CGW parts (there is another thread going on now about the 75B SA with some tips on cleaning up the trigger creep and reset).

Both are great guns, and you should feel/shoot them before getting one if you get the chance (if not, hard to go wrong with either).  Personally, I was a little frustrated with the one SA 40 I had, out of the box the trigger was heavier and had more hammer camming than any of my other CZ's, but that was just luck of the draw.  I did like the frame feel better than the standard model, but like the 40B frame even more, so the SA just doesn't really fit in my collection.

Anyway, hope this helps, or at least keeps the conversation going!

Enjoy!

Thanks.  If I got one, I'd definitely have a comp hammer installed as well as a full trigger job and adjustable rear sight.
Accuracy is essential as we, for example, occasionally must shoot clay shotgun targets at 25 yards.
So, 4" at that range is what I'd want.

Breaking clays at 25 yards will be comfortable for either pistol with factory configuration.

Some pistols originally chambered for 9mm don't really make the grade in 40S&W.  However, CZ did a great job adapting the CZ75 to 40S&W as did Browning with the HiPower.
