How do you get the P07/09 guide rod apart to change springs? Two pair of pliers and twist?
-
Buy one of these (https://cajungunworks.com/product/97060-fits-p-09/) and never look back.
-
Just hit the end with a little heat.
Even a hair dryer would work.
It'll come right off.
I twisted the head off of one, leaving the threads inside the guide rod.

thinks, will try that. No need in a SS guide rod if this works.
-
You could also hold a soldering iron on the end screw to heat it up. That should kill the Loctite.

What are the advantages of using
SS guide rod VS OEM ?

No real advantage just that some of us like steel parts in our guns. One plus to the steel rod is that it makes replacing the recoil spring easier and different springs can be used to tune the gun to the load being used as opposed to the captured rod which does not seem to come in different spring weights.

Be prepared for your spring replacements to leave paint particles every where : My Gold spring after use a few times is almost bare

Do they also sell the spring?

Yes. #15 spring I like for my 130PF reloads

18# spring would be better for Self defense type loads

I have a SSGR and 18# spring from CGW, and still have the stock guide rod and spring. I shot the gun while switching back and forth between the two. No difference in function with Speer Lawman 124s, and the stock GR/spring actually made the recoil feel softer. I left it in the gun and am keeping the SS as a spare.

Just an FYI I pulled the tungsten rod out of my M&P pro and dropped it into one of my P 09's and it fits perfect. Gives a little more weight up front and is nice and stout. http://www.speedshooterspecialties.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=103_90_158&products_id=979

What recoil spring did you use to fit the larger guide rod? I'm working on making this setup work right now.
