Title: Trade advice: P-09 for P-10?
Post by: Thebillsman on June 04, 2017, 10:30:19 AM
Hey guys, I went to the range yesterday where I'm a member and asked a young gentleman behind the counter if they had any P-10Cs in their inventory and he replied "Not the C, but we have the P-10." So, I just kind of :o and got my range day started.

It's my third CZ, but I got a killer deal on my P-09 40 and I think I'll be able to recoup most of what I paid for it if I were to trade it. It doesn't have any work to it besides a light on the rail and about 300 rounds through it. I like shooting it and I don't have any problems with the caliber, but when I finished shooting and returned to the store front there it was. The P-10C in FDE.

After holding it for a little I love the grip, really like the trigger and it peaked my interest. I've never had a striker fired pistol and the hype is starting to swallow me up regarding this new P-10. I'm torn as to whether to swap my P-09. Any advice would be great.

No one can make this decision but you. A lot of it comes down to what you want it to do? Range CCW or home defense? I personally have zero use for most full sized guns like the P-09 so I would choose the P-10 since I strictly buy plastic pistols for CCW. I'm not a fan of the P-10 currently so....

You have to decide which one YOU like the best and not decide based on hype.

The P-09 was my bedside firearm. A job that many pistols could adopt. The value of the P-09 has dropped considerably, unless you are Gander Mountain who still sells them at full MSRP.. which is probably one of the big reason they are circling the drain.

I feel like the P-10 might be a little more versatile, and both will be available in the future for fairly cheap even if the P-09 40 is discontinued. Just looking to get some input from others..

Sounds like your mind is made up. I don't like 40s as it's a caliber that serves no purpose anymore. I will say this, don't buy the P-10 based on hype because you will be disappointed. It's a sub $500 plastic gun and feels like such. No better or worse.

I want a P-10C, there's no doubt about that. I just don't know if I want to trade in the P-09 on it. Buyers remorse plagues me.

If you really like the P-09 in .40 just keep it and save for a P-10C. If you like the P-09 but would like it just as much in 9mm there is no harm in trading. You could always get a P-09 in 9mm later if you wanted.

Personally I don't care for .40 or striker-fired guns much but that is just me.

So I just left and they appraised the P ?09  at $250, I just can't let this thing go for that cheap. I don't care how much they cost new at the moment. I am a little bummed, I thought I would be leaving with a new P 10 today , oh well.

I'm surprised they were willing to give you $250. Gun shops are in the business of making money so you shouldn't have expected them to give you anything close to what you paid for it brand new.

Moving the P-10 shouldn't be a problem for them so them having to wait to sell isn't a factor.

If the trade value started with a three it would have been a done deal.

As far as a P-09 in .40 vs the P-10 in 9mm, that would be a no brainer for me, go with the P-10. If it's definitely only one or the other, if the gun shop does layaway, put enough down on the P-10 to hold it. Since you would have been ok for $300 plus for the -09, try and sell it for $400 OBO (over $300), and put that towards getting the P-10 out of layaway.

Save for the P10C.  Hating .40 is the cool thing to do right now, so shops are not interested in taking them on trades.  While you save for the P10C, you can enjoy the P09 in .40.  I run the +2 mag extensions in my .40 P09 and a 17+1 .40 pistol is a really good nightstand gun.  I'm a fan of the .40 and will probably pick up a P10C in .40 when they are released.  I didn't plan on, or even want the P10C in 9mm, yet I've come to really like the thing.  Enough so that I'm toying with selling my Cajunized P07 in 9mm now.

Great Choice. I have a P-09 in .40 and a black P-10c 9mm. I wouldn't part with either of them. (or the 2 P-07 9mm either)
