Which would you go with? It's mostly for bench shooting and maybe occcassional varmint.

Varmint, heavy barrel:

Its reviews convinced me: http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-455-varmint-22-lr-5-rd-mag/
Very happy with it. The reason for choosing the thumbhole stock? Vanity. I just like the way it looks, along with the fluted barrel. It's just a classy rifle, and its accuracy is very impressive. Effortless one MOA groups, and I'm no expert. I haven't even tried anything except cheap Remington Thunderbolt ammo yet.
Beware that it is heavy, but for bench shooting that's a plus.

I have a varmint and love it, but it is heavy. I've been thinking about getting the barrel fluted just to get a little better balance out of the rifle.

I keep leaning towards the lighter American 455. My son has a heavy bull barrel and while it's nice not sure if I want to lug it around.

I have the 455 American. I like the overall weight/balance of the rifle. Also, adding a bipod didn't throw off the balance at all. As far as it's accuracy, it's spot on. Now for me, this is primarily a hunting rifle. I'm not too concerned with shooting out a spot the size of a dime at 50 yards. I'm happy with a nickel. [emoji57]

Ok so I currently own a marlin 17V. It weighs in at about 6 lbs minus scope and bipod. I'm reading that the varmint is 7+ without scope and bipod. The American is 5+. Will it really be nickel vs dime loss of accuracy? I also own a Winchester 300 win mag so primary hunting rifle is taken care of I feel.

Well I went with the varmint.

I am sure you will not be disappointed; if you are, I'll take it off your hands ;D
What color is the stock?
-
Well I ordered the walnut. I'll post pics once I get it in.

I'm going to hold you to that promise.

It?s been a while. Rifle should be in by Monday.

Good luck with the stock lottery, hope you get one with exceptional grain detail. Be sure to give us and update when you get some range time. I'd kind of like to get a Varmint model, but I've already got rimfires coming out of my ears.

Thanks. Now to figure out rings and optics. I don?t own many bolt guns so I?m kinda lost.

I put BKL 1 inch rings (medium, 11mm dovetail) with a Leupold VX 1 2-7 x33 scope on mine...ample clearance for the bolt.

I think we have talked before. Will that setup also work with Nikon rimfire?

Most likely - here's another info source

I use the bkl rings but the varmint gets heavy. I like my American better and shoots just as good.

I love the Varmint heavy barrel. I know it's going to shoot straight every time.
