Title: Initial Witness Hunter Observations
Post by: Scarlett Pistol on August 05, 2017, 03:35:18 PM
I opening my Witness up for a good cleaning and to check out the internals. Here's some observations so far.

1) The firing pin block system is slightly different. In CZ 75's the lifter arm pushes the firing pin block upwards to allow the firing pin to work. The faces of engagement are on top of the CZ 75 firing pins. In the Witness Hunter the faces on engagement are on the bottom of the firing pin. The spring still pushes the firing pin block downwards, but it wrests on an arm on the front right side of the sear (when the pistol is oriented with the barrel point away from you). When the trigger is pulled the sear rotates and the sear arm goes forward and down. This allows the firing pin block to drop down and the firing pin can function. Here's pictures trying to show this interaction.

2) Recoil Guide Rod. This seems to be different than the recoil guide rods most Witnesses come with. It seems to be mimicking the guide rod Henning makes as an aftermarket part. The picture explains what is going on.

3) Sight Swap. I swapped out the backed out front sight for the fiber optic that came with the Witness Hunter. Much much better!

4) Trigger bar. There's some sort of mechanism under the trigger bar, up by the trigger. I hear this is a candidate for good polishing. I haven't torn this pistol apart that far. Just pointing it out for those curious about the differences between the 75's and Witnesses. When I went to add the picture I looked at it. This seems to be their mechanism that acts like the trigger bar spring. Welcome to the ride... Haha I'm learning as I post and investigate different areas.

I'm going to wrap this one up for right now. I'll keep posting as I find differences and dig in more. I'm not planning any more upgrades besides the red grips I put on. Here's a pic of the pistol as it is now and the trigger pull.

You're welcome! It's not complete yet, but it's a start.

Interesting, never been in a  10 MM Hunter!
on my 38 Super Elite Match the recoil rod is identical to the one that Hennings offers??
or at least its so close  that I can't tell a difference.
I do have a regular witness steel frame in 10 MM but  it has a standard metal recoil spring rod.
on to the  plunger  thats under the trigger bar.
there is a little spring inside and you can reduce the trigger pull a good little bit by replacing it with a lighter spring, and of course while its out polish that puppy up just for the sake of doing it.
Now there may be a  trick to it but  this plunger also holds the  magazine release in place or at least on mine it does, so when you go to remove the plunger  make note that the spring inside the magazine catch will shoot out the side and its extremely hard to find!
there is also a small plunger like thing that is ahead of the spring that comes out with the spring.
you can guess how I know this.
also its quite a task to get the trigger bar plunger back in while holding the magazine catch in and depressing the spring  to allow the plunger to go in fully.
there has to be a easier way of doing this but I haven't found anything on it?
not sure that I would even remove the plunger again?
maybe someone else can offer advice to us on this?
