I was wondering about this after I got some Magtech FMJ ammo & topped off the magazine.
It cycled beautifully, but I haven't dared to use the de-cocker because ranges are not the best around here --- the ones that aren't Class III License boutiques for full-auto bachelor parties are holes-in-the-wall with range masters who've obviously watched R. Lee Armey in "Full Metal Jacket" once too often.
So my question is: Are the CZ 70 de-cockers generally reliable, or am I better off (safety-wise) just manually de-cocking it once I've got a round in the chamber so that I don't end up putting a round in one of the cats? :o :o :o

Use the de-cocker. U have a better chance of an ND by manually decocking it. Just keep it down range and I can't see a reason for the range master getting irritated beyond their normal state of irritation.

"... beyond their normal state of irritation."
I love that! ;D ;D ;D

I just remembered that I have some metal A-Zoom "snap caps" incoming from eGay & can use those to check if there's a strike on that dead primer on the back of it. ;D ;D ;D
As previously stated, I hate ranges like the flesh-eating virus. >:( >:( >:(
I usually do any test-firing, scope-sighting, shotgun-patterning, etc. at a friend's farm upstate --- he has a penchant for picking up EVERY, SINGLE washer, dryer, oven & refrigerator left on the side of the road or in a trash heap somewhere so that there's always a good supply of "real" targets...as he calls them.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats knocking down a Kenmore 'fridge with a heavy-caliber hunting bullet while doping your scope. O0 O0 O0

I'm lucky, I'm the range master for my department range so as long as no one is shooting safely and not damaging my target system I'm happy. I detest indoor ranges. Especially when the kid RO just back from the 5-11 fire sale trying to tell me how tactical he is, and how I can get so much better if I take his advice. LOL

After replacing the firing pin in my 70 with the improved one. I was hesitant after reading a 50/50 thought that the decocker wouldn't work. I haven't had any issues and I make sure whenever I load a mag I point it at a berm behind my house for safe keeping.

Lucky you, I wish I was living much more remotely (hopefully soon), but right now I'm stuck in the big, bad city. :P :P :P

Use the pencil test. With the gun unloaded insert a pencil into the barrel, eraser end first. Cock the hammer, point it barrel up and engage the decocker. If the pencil doesn't move, the decocker did its job. If it moves, it isn't safe to use.

You sir, have proven that Leonardo da Vinci was correct: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." 8) 8) 8)

I can't take credit for this. I found it in this forum while looking up information on my CZ52 which has both a safety AND a decocker. It was a ground-breaking design!

Well, it worked like a charm --- the de-cocker is fully-functional! ;D ;D ;D
Just to be on the safe side, though, I used a back-up plan to test it with a live round in the chamber.
I went down to the dock behind my condo & tested it out with the barrel pointing at the water --- while my neighbor from across the hall started up his Harley in the adjacent parking garage with the two plug boots on the cylinders inverted.
I figured if it didn't work, nothing would cover up the BANG! of an accidental shot like the sound of a '74 Harley back-firing through straight pipes.

We can only get 25yds of space which is fine for handguns but not our rifles. My neighbor a Korean War vet also a Marine will sometimes come out and join me in shooting.

It still must be really sweet to get out there & decompress by blowing off a little steam. :) :) :)
