Best part first. After I cleaned up at the range today I noticed an older gentleman helping, what looked to be his grandson, get ready to shoot a BIG revolver. I stopped and watched with great interest. When the kid pulled the trigger the proceeding heart stopping boom and blinding muzzle flash confirmed it was an X-Frame. I watched with a big grin as the kid shot the other rounds.
When the gentleman turned around I asked what it was. He said it was the 460 S&W Magnum. I had $5 in my wallet and offered to pay him if I could shoot a round or two. He immediately said I could shoot it, but I didn't need to pay him. [emoji3]

I have decided pistol scopes are a pain to shoot with (having not used one before). Overall the recoil was much nicer than I expected. Mostly because of the giant rubber grip, as opposed to the metal backstrap smashing my thumb knuckle. It was amazing to shoot! I let him shoot my Witness Hunter 10mm. Then he had me try his 45-70 lever gun with a red dot. DANG!!! I want one pretty bad now! Modern +P 45-70 loads are basically T-Rex killers, but he said his were loaded to standard pressure. Oh, and he had me shoot his Bond Arms Derringer in 410. No lust for that gun... What fun though!
I did 25 rounds through the 10mm witness hunter. Still pretty consistent with 3 to 4 rounds in the black rings per 5 shot group. I think I am squeezing the trigger and pulling shots right a little... Last 5 were the best again.
Then I shot about 100 9mm rounds. I haven't been practicing my draw or practical pistol shooting much. I was rusty. Got my draw and first shot back down to 1.2 seconds. I need adjustable rear sights and likely taller front sights though before I go back to a match. All my 75's with the CGW bushing shifted POI. At 15 yards they're about 3 inches high. Anyways, it was a fun day.

Here's the stills of the muzzle flash the video captured.

Its amazing who you can run in to at the range ;)
So what distance were your grouping for the 10mm?
How was the kick on the 45-70? I've never shot one.

Lol I was so excited from the 460 mag and the 45-70 I forgot to mention I ran into Scottyboy too. He was packing up as I arrived. Hope Comic Con was as interesting for you as it was for me last year!
Those were all 25 yards.
It wasn't bad at all, but he hadn't loaded the rounds to +P levels. In about a year I'll have one for you to try [emoji48]. Today's experience sealed my fate.

It's always a good shootong day when there are more black holes than white holes. Good job.

Big revolvers certainly are fun to shoot!
I see the .460 as a much more "usable" cartridge than the .500. The .500 is too much...well...everything.
The comp is actually what makes that handgun so easy to shoot. Without the comp, muzzle jump is quite pronounced on these beasts.

If you are going the Marlin route, then you will run in to which were the 'good' Marlins, pre Remington, post Remington once they go their crap together etc LOL . Knowing you, there could be quiet a bit of research ahead of you :) . There are just some unbelievable deals on Marlin 45/70s right now!

Yeah, the 500 seems nuts. If I ever got a 460 I think I would get the one with a 14" barrel and muzzle break that looks like an AR. Seems like it gets more out of the cartridge for stretching the range a little more. Comp's are incredible!!!

Ugh.... There is so much research I am going to have to do. I'm not in a rush, but I have a friend chomping at the bit and I don't want him to get a crappy one. I watched the series on Forgotten Weapons on the Winchester lever guns this weekend (while the stomach flu ruined me). That was really interesting!

I'm really liking that Witness 10mm long slide, nifty!

Haha I'm quite fond of it too. I'd say thanks, but the niftyness really has nothing to do with me...
