I shot my Bren 805 for the first time today, and it was great! I'm just curious about the barrel, it seems to have changed color (lighter), and I wanted to make sure this was normal.
I'm trying to use photobucket for my pics, so lets see if it works:

Looks like you burnt the oil out of it. CLP it.
-
Sorry, but I'm a newbie to firearms. What exactly do you mean? I have CLP in my cleaning kit, but I'm not sure what you are telling me to do with it.

Rub it down w/CLP.

Thanks, that's what I thought he meant, but I wanted to make sure first.

Congrats on the new gun by the way, very nice!

Nothing to worry about, just give her a rub down with your usual oil, light coat. Great rifle, ain't it?
-
It's a good idea, to wipe the steel/iron parts down with an oily rag/cloth after cleaning.
Even the old/tough Parkerizing used on US military weapons needs some oil on the surface of it to help keep it from rusting.
I'm not sure that oiling a cerakote finish does much good, but I do it anyway. Sooner or later it'll wear through somewhere and without some oil on the bare metal wear spots they'll rust.
Rust/corrosion = bad. Bad for appearance, bad for functional reliability, bad for you if you depend on that weapon. I remember my father-in-law saying that semi-autos ran better "dry". I also remember him trading his off every few years for a new deer rifle/pistol when reliability issues or accuracy issues developed.

Thanks, I can't wait to get back to the range to shoot it some more! I just picked up a cheap red dot as well.
-
Which one? I have the inexpensive TRS-32 on mine, and the 5 MOA dot is big at 100 yards, it's still very, very usable.

I gave the AT3 Tactical RD-50 a shot. It says it's a 2 MOA. I entered a raffle to win won (and didn't), but they gave me a coupon code for $15 off, so I think it ended up being around $70 with a height adapter.
