Strange request or question but here it goes. I have two EAA Tangfolio Witness firearms, one in 45 and one in 38 Super. I as a rule don?t subscribe to mounting lights or lasers to my firearms. I have one nightstand firearm for that duty that is polymer and I chose that due to weight. So I find the excess weight from the extra steel needed to create pic rail / mill spec rail a detriment to an other wise excellent design.
Has anyone ever had the frame refilled to a normal contour that was common before rail systems? Someone versed in milling / tooling probably could do something like this in fairly short order. Then a cerakote job to refinish where the steel was removed / milled..
Thoughts and recommendations of qualified persons known that I could contact for discussion are appreciated. Some will say just sell or trade the arm. Because of my affections for the design and my investment are rather low, I would like to explore this possibility.
Thanks,
Texf6

Should read Re-milled not refilled. Sorry for the typo.

If you do a bit of research on milling the rail off firearms you will likely learn 1. It is not a new idea
2. It only takes someone with the skill and quality equipment to do it
Personally, I have been lurking, looking, for a couple years for a beat up S or T 120 at a very low price to do that very thing to. My bedside howitzer sized .45 is my only railed pistol. I chose it because with its heft and size that rail only adds panache to a formidable club. I keep a flashlight right next to it....I can?t shoot worth squat with the lasers I have tried....not a rail guy. They sure sell plenty of widgets to mount on a rail. I am old enough to remember curb feelers, lake pipes and blue dots.

The extra weight helps in felt recoil.
Go for it if it makes you happy.

Contact Stuart at CZ Customs. I've seen several of their customs that have had the rail removed or had a full dust cover shortened.

As to the extra weight for felt recoil, to each his own. Never felt 45 and 38 super recoil to be a problem in my 1911s without rails. Carry weight is an altogether different story and while neither one is my first choice EDC I don?t advocate carrying around extra weight for the heck of it. Wait.... if I truly lived by that I would do something about my own body weight now wouldn?t I? ;)
