Title: CZ's XS P-10C Night Sights vs CGW P-10 Tritium Sights
Post by: cremaley on January 28, 2018, 06:10:03 PM
I have narrowed down my choice of night sights for my P-10 to CZ's XS P-10C night sights ($95) or Cajun Gun Works P-10 tritium night sights ($118.95). Is anyone running either of these sights on your P-10 and, if so, what do you think of them? CZ's sights are made by XS and CGW by Dawson and Trijicon. Thanks.

The CGW sights are far superior IMO.

The XS sights are fast up close but generally much harder to be precise with at distances over 10 yards. Not saying you can?t make hits but you will pay a price in terms of time to do so, especially if you are talking real precision.

I found that regular sights with a hi-viz front can be equally fast up close and much faster as the distance to target increases.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks. That's precisely the kind of information I was looking for. I have been leaning towards the CGW's sights but your input has definitely pushed me over the top. This is one of the best gun forums I have ever been a member of.

I'm the production manager for XS Sights.  I'm not trying to pitch a product, just clarifying some info.

The XS product on CZ-USA's website IS NOT an express sight.  They are a conventional 3 dot sight system that was built to CZ-USA's specifications so that they would have a tritium sight option.  We built them for CZ-USA using their prints.  Here's a picture of one of the overruns that I had on my P10:

Currently, there are exactly two P10C's with actual Express Sights, and they're both using prototypes.

I truly appreciate your comments but am not sure what you mean by it is not an express sight. Could you please explain. Thanks.

The express sights typically have a very large front "dot" with a very shallow rear v-notch. That is what IMO makes them great up close but hard to use at distance... they are adapted from rifle sights that are designed for up close "express" use ;-)

These are standard notch/post sights. Thanks much for the info, Monte!

This is great info. Thanks for stepping in Monte. I like i-dot sights, but haven't owned a set yet. I was planning on putting those on my P10c. Is this what you are calling 'express' sights s0nspark?

No. I-dots are something different. Express sights have a very shallow v for a rear sight. VERY shallow. Not a notch like regular sights.

Ok, the i-dot sights I tried on a friends gun were with a V rear sight and a small white post for the XS big dot front to sit above for the i-dot effect. I think we may be talking bout the same. I loved them, and have had it on my buy list since trying my friends out that day.

I-dots are an Ameri Glo product.  They are a normal notch and post with a tritium lamp in the front and one in the rear at the bottom of the notch.  Heine offered them for years as the Straight 8 configuration.  Our newer F8 sights are similar.  Here's a picture:

Our normal sights are an express design, as in the old African Express hunting rifles.  A very shallow "V" with a vertical white line in the back and a large white dot up front.  Here's a picture:

Yep, the V with a post and big white dot up front is what my friend had. What is that one named. Something like 24 hr XS big dot sights?

And the top looks good too. Which is better in your opinion Monte?

If yours go on like mine did they practically install themselves.

This was actually my first sight install... I've had all the rest professionally installed. I decided to give it a try on the P-10C, though, figuring I could always take it to the gunsmith 5 minutes from my house if I ran into trouble. In this case I was replacing the stock sights with a CZ Custom fiber front and HTAC rear. I was expecting (dreading) some hand fitting but in my case it was not needed.

My "bench" is a simple affair - I have a drill press vise mounted to a piece of wood that I can set on a tabletop. You can partially see it in this pic:

That is the same sight set on one of my P-07s and my P-10C, BTW. The HTAC rear differs a bit between the two - both are great but I prefer the P-07 design a bit more.

Anyway, installing the sights was a simple as mounting the slide in the vise (protected by some plastic blocks on either side and a layer of cardboard folded under and up the sides to be safe) and loosening the little hex set screws that secure the front and rear sights. It took minimal effort to drift the old sights out with a nylon punch and similar effort to install the new ones. I protected the area on the sights where the punch touched with some painters tape to ensure the finish was protected.

I was told that when installing the rear sight it should go into the dovetail about halfway with nothing more than finger pressure - if that is not the case the new sight dovetail will require some fitting. I got lucky. :)

Once the new sights were installed I tightened the set screws and that was all there was to it. Some people put a touch of blue loctite on the set screws but I have not found that to be necessary yet...
