Title: If You could only have 3 guns.....
Post by: jwc007 on October 03, 2005, 01:04:48 PM
You can only have three guns and three types of ammo.
1. Handgun
2. Shotgun
3. Rifle

What would you pick and why?

CZ75B
AK-47
Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 with an 18 or 20 inch barrel

Oops, firgot the ammo:
Speer Gold Dots, 9mm, 115gr.
Wolf 7.64x39 Soft Points
Sellier&Bellot 2.75" 00 Buck

I'm not a hunter.  I'm a shooter with defense and bad scenarios in the back of my head.  I don't fantisize about SHTF situations, but want to be ready if there is one.  I love my CZ's and would trust any of them with my life.  A full-sized 9mm version would provide plenty of firepower and readily available ammo.  I also am a huge AK fan.  The reliability is superb and the accuracy is acceptable.  As for the Mossberg or Remington, I'm a believer that a shotgun is basically a tube on a receiver that dishes out a powerful blast on the other end.  Both the Mossberg and Remington are reliable.  The short barrel is plenty for defense and is good enough to shoot skeet, so I should be able to take some game down with it if needed.

Guns
1. CZ 75B 9mm
2. Franchi SPAS-12 ( just for fun..... :D    )
3. Browning A-bolt Composite Stalker in .270 WSM

Ammo
1. 9mm- Cor-bon 115 gr. DPX +P or Gold dot 124 gr. +P
2. 12 gauge- Any will do for me.
3. .270 WSM- Winchester 140 gr. Accubond CT

1. CZ75-Automatic:hat
2. Benelli Nova 12g.
3. Sako FinnLight in 300 Win Mag.

1. Anything S&B or Fiocchi
2. 2 3/4", #7 shot
3. 168 gr. Barnes XLC

I guess I could settle on a Glock 18 if I had to, but that CZ sure would be fun.
I wish that this was for four guns because a nice Buckmark .22 or MkII .22 si very useful in survival situations.  It can take down deer and ammo is so light and cheap to stock.

I am guessing the firearms have to be ones we can actualy own legaly. If I had to keep only three of the guns I have I would pick.

1. Pistol: Glock 19
2. Rifle: AK47
3. Shotgun: Mossberg 590 12ga
All of these three for the same reason. They are accurate enough, simple, tough as nails and easy to up keep.

Ammo
1. Federal 9mm +p+ 124gr
2. Corbon 7.62x39
3. 2 3/4 00 buck

I might change it a little if I thought about it but not much. If I changed rifles I would keep my .308 heavy barrel and I might change some of the ammo.

So what about yours jwc007? What would you choose?

handgun:  Sig SP2340 in .357 SIG   Speer Gold Dots
shotgun: Remington 1100  ,loads depending upon application.
rifle:       Remington 700 in 30-06  , Black Hills 150 grain Noslers.

I have all three and would select them over again if I had to have only three guns from those categories.

As for myself:

Firearms

1. Handgun: Taurus PT92 9mm
2. Shotgun:  Remington 1100 with 2 Shot Extension
3. Rifle: L1A1 FN FAL 7.62mm NATO

Ammunition

1. Handgun: CCI Gold Dot 124 grn +P or Federal 124 grn EFMJ
2. Shotgun: 12 guage 00 Buckshot or Slugs made by anyone
3. Rifle: Winchester .308 165 grn SPBT loads & CAVIM Surplus 147 grn FMJ

Was sorely tempted to choose a .45 Witness for the handgun and my AKM for the rifle.  I can carry more 9mm than .45 ammo.  The L1A1 will have more Range and Ammo options than my AKM.  A compromise might have been my AR15, but it requires more specific maintenance (Bolt and Bolt Carrier Clean & Lube).  It was a hard choice.

It depends on what you anticipate needing or wanting a gun for.

Pistol - CZ75 PO1
Rifle - Mosin M38
Shotgun - don't have one

If I had my druthers, the first wouldn't change, but the rifle would be either a DSA FAL carbine, or a Romak 3 Dragunov clone 16" barreled carbine without scope, and a good Winchester 1200 Defender 12 gauge.

1. Handgun: Springfield XD-40 Tactical
2. Shotgun: Don't know, as I am not shotgun-savvy. So I'm going to bend the rules a bit and fill this slot with another handgun: CZ 75B 40S&W   :D
3. Rifle: Varmint AR-15 with a 24" barrel

Well if I could only have one handgun it would definitely be a little S&W J-frame .38sp snub-nosed revolver. I figure if things got so bad that I could only have 1 handgun, it better be something that's real easy to carry and conceal without drawing any attention while being 100% reliable and reasonably powerful.

For a shotgun I'd pick a Remington 870 pump gun because it's a great pump and it's versatile with different barrels available for it. I think the Remington 870 is a better made gun than the Mossberg 500, but the 500 isn't all that bad.

A rifle for me would be a good bolt-action sporting rifle like a CZ 550 or a Winchester M70 in 30-06 caliber. Bolt-actions are great for hunting. [No assault rifles for me, I guess I'll just have to trust the government in a military or "Red Dawn" type situation;) ].

I don't think I'd want a Rem 700 because I've heard that the cheezy little cheap extractors sometimes give trouble unless you replace it with a beefed-up Sako type extractor. Second and third choices for caliber would be .308 Win and .270 Win. The 30-06 is a very versatile caliber for hunting.

CZ 550 in a 30-06  - will handle pretty much anything I would want to kill

CZ-712 - will put plenty of food on the table

CZ-453 in 17HM2 (not yet made but hopefully soon)
would be fun to shoot and still put food on the table.

Is there any other guns than CZ's?  Not in my eyes:D

1. Sig P229 in 9mm. Ultra reliable and uber accurate.
2. Benelli M3. Versatile and fast.
3. M1A. Heavy hitter, high cap, and accurate.

Blasphemy!

Okay now that I have that out of the way...

CZ-85 Combat in 9mm
 - 124gr. Remington Golden Saber

HK-91
 - 168gr. Federal Gold Medal Match

a tactical Remington 870
 - 2 3/4" S&B No.4 buck

For these weapons parts are everywhere, ammo is everywhere, and each is an excellent weapon. I own two or three in each category that would be excellent choices so I might actually choose different weapons depending on circumstances.

Handgun: H&K USP .45 Full size
Rifle: Springfield Socom II .308
Shotgun: FN TPS with slug/buck intermintent rounds

I might change my mind, give me two minutes. (I'm having kid in a candy store panick right now) :rolleyes

O.k., I have two lists...

From my current gun cabinet
handgun: CZ-75
shotgun: Franchi 712 Raptor
rifle: T/C Omega (cheap plinking and could still hunt with it)

If money were no object
handgun: Sig Sauer P210
shotgun: Franchi 712 Raptor
rifle: Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless BOSS in .270WIN

Oddly enough, the only one of these I don't own is the Sig Sauer P210. If money were no object, I could shoot .270 all day (especially with the BOSS system) and hunt with it. Right now, I just practice before hunting because of the price issue. I have a turkey gun, but the Raptor could handle that as well, and with the adjustable cheek rest I had installed, I can go from field to trap and sporting clays.
