Hello,
I recently just purchased my first gun (a CZ P-09). I am looking to, at some point, purchase a bunch of CGW aftermarket parts for customization. I have just been twiddling my thumbs with the gun and cleaning cleaning cleaning (Haven't even shot it yet). One of the things I did includes putting in the decocker (The gun originally came with a safety installed, which I thought was weird because every review or article says that the gun comes pre-installed with a decocker. As far as I know, the gun was NIB from Cabela's but had tape and other nonsense on the plastic case.
I've Googled and searched and asked and haven't had much luck finding information that I need. Anyway, when using the decocker during dry firing, the decocking action is quite violent. Like the spring is waaaaaay too strong. The lever moves fine (no tightness or hitching or anything like that) to get it in position to decock, but once it actually does it... hope your thumb is out of the way as it slams back down to rest. Like, rip your thumb nail off strong. The double action with the decocker is pretty bad, but I've found out about filing down part of it via the thread from Schmeky and feel that should fix it.
As I get to my point... is this normal for a never fired gun (outside of I suppose CZ's factory testing)? Will anything change as more rounds get fired by the gun or dryfiring? What about more cycles of the decocker? Will changing all the the internals with the kit, etc do anything?

The gun will smooth out with use, but as long as you have the heavy hammer spring in there, it will be violent but it does only go to the half cock position. I believe the original hammer spring is 20lbs. I am running a 15lb hammer spring in my P-07 with the CGW Pro kit installed. With all that it is not near as bad and the double action is also much less. Double action is under 8lbs and the single action is under 3lbs. Lots of parts are also polished.

Sounds entirely normal -the decocking action is a bit violent ;-)
Be sure if you intend to dry fire regularly that you use an o-ring or a snap cap. The stock firing pin retaining pin can be a bit ... delicate.

You will get used to the hammer snapping down when you depress the decocker. It is 100% reliable and the only certain way to decock your gun with a loaded chamber. You can trust it. And yes, a lighter hammer spring with CGW hammer and other upgrades will make it much more pleasant when you decock.

By the way, if your pistol had the safeties installed that means someone not only removed the decockers but also the small spring that is needed for the decocking levers to work correctly.
Most folks say getting that spring back in is a real BEAR. Did you reinstall that small spring when you switched back to the decocking levers? If you mentioned it, I missed it.

It is not that hard. If you lock the spring leg under the tab before you rotate the decocker down into position, it is much easier.

Small screwdriver will work also. On 6-th or 7-th try.
I have CGW short reset kit in my P-09. Nice kit. 20 lbs stock mainspring is obviously overkill. 13 lbs will work on most quality ammo (available in Europe), but not with Russian Barnaul, which is not quality ammo at all. S&B, Magtech, some light strikes on Fiocchi, 1 in 2k maybe?, not worth to mention. Doesn't like factory reloads like Slovakian Ares or, may God throw all available lightning bolts on them, Lithuanian Zala Arms, which is purest sort of crap. Not a problem in US obviously. Good for you.
5-7k so far, only broke stock TRS once at 1,5k. It works 100%, so it is a good pistol. No wearing marks whatsoever and it doesn't get very dirty comparing to Shadow. Bit easier to work with it, too. Trigger, even with CGW goodies is absolutely ok and miles away from stock, but very far from that, what you will get from Shadow.
Good pistol. If you have dry hands like me, use some stair or skateboard tape on grips. Plastic kinda don't work with dry skin.
And I have AK and AR too. Reasonably liberal gun laws here so far. Good for us.

I use a small locking hemostat.

I mentioned the spring/trouble installing it since he wasn't sure about the functioning and if he did install the spring he might remember it if he had some trouble (and to let him know that if he had trouble, he wouldn't be the only one.

Absolutely.

Yeah, the spring came with it and was a total pain to get in, but I got it in (after an hour and a half >:(). Ended up taking the decocker out and replacing it with the safety because of the horrendous double action with the decocker in. I ended up filing the decocker down to fix the double action hitching. Not only is the DA trigger pull MUCH better (less hitch, cleaner, smoother, etc) but the decocking action has lessened (Approximately 75% of the old force). Installed the same way both times (freaking spring...). Can't make much of it. Much happier with it, and is now honestly fine as is, but will certainly get better when I replace the hammer spring.
The reason I posted regarding this issue in the first place is because I have shot a few other guns with decockers... an FNP9 and another unknown pistol. Both were way less forceful than this pistol. But it is unknown to me how many rounds were through them to loosen them up and no idea on mods.
I certainly appreciate the words of wisdom and reassurance with this issue.

Not all pistols with decockers give feedback through the lever like the CZ does. My Sig 229,Beretta 92 FS, and 3rd gen S&W's all have decockers that work entirely different from the CZ system.

My P-07 came safety installed as well and it was brand spanking new so it must be a thing now.

Your thumb will really know it when you de-cock a SIG P220.

Huh never handled the 220 but my 229 drops nice and smooth with a bit of feedback. The Beretta and 3rd gen S&W's are a slide mounted lever so you get no feedback from them.

My P220 and my P226 de-cockers drop very smooth. Both of my P-07's still de-cock harder than my Sigs even with the 15lb hammer spring, but it is no big deal.

I think my P-07 gives more feedback even than my 75BD and PCR decockers but yea I've never considered it an issue.
