Had a great experience with my new H&K .40 compact. Stainless slide w/2 10 rd mags. Shot 100 rds, 165gr. & 180gr. Operation was perfect, and accurate as well. Nicely made pistol, recoil is a bit sharp but controlable, about on par with my friends Glock 23. Only negatives so far: double action trigger pull is long & stiff, pistol could have a slimmer profile. Other than those small detractors, i think this will be a great C.C. gun, with all the problems & frustration i had with the Sigma .40, its a pleasure to have and shoot an H&K. thanks.

I am glad that you put your Sigma challenges behind and got an H&K, which is a VAST improvement in my opinion. I am glad you are happy with the H&K. ,but then again, the two words are synonimous.

Black Tallon discontinued making their rounds but I recently found some in .40. A good grab if you can hook a couple boxes for CCW.

My personal preference for .40SW CCW.

King, thanks for the reply, the Hornady ammo looks interesting, why did you choose 180gr. and not 165gr. bullets? I have a gun show that i will be attending this next weekend, i will look for some Hornedy .40. I like the shape of the hollow point, not as flat as others ive used. this would give me confidence in more reliable feeding. I want you to know i really like my Rami 2075 9mm also. sweet shootin pistol! I got hooked on owning the H&K .40, ordance-outsellers has the H&K 2000 w/ 2 13 rd mags for $640.00. its in 9mm. very sexy looking, plus it has the LE trigger. Iam tempted ,but my wife wants to do some things to the house, so....., i may sell my Walther p99 to a friend who wants it. What do you think? worth doing that? W.W.J.D.?

pistolaro:
I have always been a big fan of Hornady ammunition and the TAP line for CCW reduces muzzle flash significantly, and I chose the 180 grainers for the extra "umph!" LOL, They claim it is very safe. I fired it in my Witnesses and in my Glocks. The Witness P/S has a ported barrel and I had several friends observe, there was virtually no muzzle flash that they could detect. I also enjoy Speer Gold Dots and Federal Hydra , Shocks.,but the Hornady TAP line has become my favorite., I have also noted that JHPs feed alot better than HPs.
I can relate to your drooling over another H&K, but I would have a hard time parting with the Walther, but then again, I am a big Walther freak. LOL, in the end, the wife overrides everything else and you must comply. LOL Let us know what you end up doing.

King, like you ,iam really into the polymer framed pistols, especially for C.C.W. I was considering the purchase of a KAHR P9 , but read alot of bad press on that animal. Reliability, durability, etc. but love the size & weight. I wish CZ would make a PO1 in poly, that would be hard to pass over. Have you had any experience with a KAHR p9 ?
-
"Have you had any experience with a KAHR p9 ? "
I don't know where you read the bad press on the Kahr P series, but I can tell you that, although I don't own one, I have shot them before and they are very popular with the law enforcement community as backups. There are several gunshops here who cater to law enforcement niches and they can't keep them in stock.
I have also read alot of favorable reviews in -GUNS AND WEAPONS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT- and other publications.
They are a bit overpriced though, but they are certainly worth it.
I know you want a PO1 in poly, but can I recommend a Witness Carry or Compact series, they are very good indeed. I also carry a Kel Tec P3AT and a Rami., so you have alot of great choices, but don't be afraid to purchase a Kahr., they are very good pistols.
-
A Kahr P9 was my newest acquisition. I got some 8-round mags for it, and its my most-frequently carried handgun.
Well made, very light. Vary small, narrow. Accurate. With a great trigger.
I carried a 75 Compact for a year or two, but this has replaced it. (I also have a Kel-Tec P3AT for those times when the P9 won't work.)
-
"A Kahr P9 was my newest acquisition"
An excellent choice.
-
Walt; how many rds. have you fired through your Kahr to date? I understand the going price is about $500.00. Do you think they are as well made as the Glocks?
-
Nothing is as well made as a Glock.
-
King; Do i detect a slight hint of bias toward Glock pistols? I thought you were a CZ fan.
-
I've only got a hundred or so through mine, but have shot others, and this gun was used.
Kahrs are very well made. A few models had some teething issues, but Kahr is especially good about looking out for their customers.... they have a GREAT reputation for making well-made, quality weapons, and looking out for their customers.
For concealed carry, Glock doesn't have anything that compares. (I have had Glocks, like Glocks, and shoot my 34 a lot.)
The big difference, for me, is the trigger. The Kahr trigger is better, if longer.
-
"King; Do i detect a slight hint of bias toward Glock pistols? I thought you were a CZ fan."
Of course I am a CZ fan, but I also love Glocks. Who says you can't love both. LOL.
-
I'll throw in on this one..
I have a PM9 that I bought used. It has digested about 500+ rounds now (wally-world white box, silvertips & JHP) without a single problem. Normally I can't hit anything with a DA gun, (I have two 1911s and a CZ75SA) but I have no problem shooting fist size groups at 15 yds. The recoil is 'snappy' but not unpleasant. This IS my CCW as it is small, sleek and reliable.

My favorite small and dependable concealed carry pistols are as follows:
1. Kel Tec P3AT
2. CZ Rami.
3. Beretta Mini Cougar
4. Glock 26.
5 Sig 232
6. Walther PPK
7. Bersa Thunder
as far as the Kahr, I am going to have to try one., I hear alot of good.
For those who have not experienced one yet, The Beretta Mini Cougar is steadily becoming my favorite. It has mindboggling ergonomics and accuracy for such a small pistol.
It may be the perfect CCW 9mm.

King; 1st, thanks for the awesome pictures, a picture is worth a 1000 words. I must say i was surprized to see the KEL-TEC #1 over the RAMI. Love my RAMI. About the Kahr p9, i have just been reading reports from P9 owners, and they all have been mixed reviews. It seems that Kahrs quality control needs a good deal of improvement. I have an opportunity to sell my walther p99 to a friend, was going to use the money to purchase the Kahr, but iam concerned that i might end up with a "lemon". the Walther is very nice and comes with 2 ten rd. mags and 2 sixteen rd. mags, also has the Q.A. trigger. Anyway, iam going to think some more on this. Love the Kahrs size and weight, perfect for C.C.W.
-
The P3AT Kel Tec has to rate number one simply because when you consider how small and slim it is for a .380ACP, its a bargain and highly concealable., even more so than the Rami, and for $275, nothing can beat it, thats why I have a few.
-
Corbon make a nice hollow point that runs hot, but accurate and reliable and spear makes a personal defense round that works great too! Sorry I don't have pics.
-Arc
-
I agree, both Speer Gold Dots and Corbon are great.

Everytime I see the title of this thread when I go by, I think of an "H&K Moment" and the parking garage scene with Tom Cruise in Colateral (otherwise known as a great ad campaign for the H&K USP), gotta love it.!
-
Walt,
Any chance you could post a side-by-side of your P9 and P3AT? Looked at a couple of the new P3ATs yesterday, but haven't made a decision yet.

mbott:
Its a compromise between caliber and narrow profile. The P3AT is a .380ACP but is noticably narrowed in its profile, and thus more concealable, but the Kahr is a 9mm, so its a question of giving up slightly more concealability for a more powerful cartridge, or do you want the concealability advantage that the Kel Tec offers., plus of course the Kahr is $150-$200 more, I went with the Kel Tec, but I already have a 9mm Glock 26, but there are some places that the Kel Tec could be concealed where the Glock cannot.
If you are still stumped and budget permitting; do what I do in a situation like this. GET BOTH !. LOL

GET BOTH !
Not in the cards this time. I've already socked away funds for a new upper for my AR15, which will leave almost enough for the P3AT or a good down payment on the Kahr. Will probably end up wiht the Kel-Tec, but wanted to see if side-by-side if possible. Nobody local stocks the Kahr that I remember.

My picture website is down this evening, but I'll post a picture of the the two guns as soon as I'm able. I've already done that SOMEWHERE here on the forum, but can't find it.

You can't go wrong with the Kel Tec. Their lifetime warranty and their customer service is legendary.
I had a first generation very old P32 that I had put literally at least 10,000 rounds through, mainly Winchester and Magtech full metal jacket .32ACPs and a few hundred Speer Gold Dot Hollows. The extractor finally went and had had enough. Mailed it in to Kel Tec and had it back in three weeks with an extra magazine and a thank you note for being a customer of theirs. All I paid was the shipping. HOW IS THAT FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!
-
MBOTT:
Here are two shots of the P3AT, the P9 and a CZ-75 Compact, from the side and rear, to show the differences.
As you can see, each gun is progressively smaller and narrower.

thanks for the link, it looks like it could help, thank you much. I want to take quality photos of my tactical knives with guns. I think they make a good combination to take photos of together.
