Title: Picked up a Sig P365 today
Post by: 2tango2 on March 27, 2018, 11:42:38 PM
Timing is everything right?  Wait lists up the wazoo for this micro pistol just about everywhere

I like the sub-compact size and 10+1 capacity of this P365.
Clever tapered magazine keeps it thin, light, and small. Best of all worlds.

I am anxious to hear reviews once they get out there, and especially how the trigger is. For carry safety, I would prefer something like a smooth 6.5 lb. with quick reset. Maybe like Sig's DAK trigger. I don't want to carry anything with too light a first round trigger.

I would really like a sub-compact single-stack 9mm DA/SA for EDC. (Hello CZ, are you listening??)
The Sig P239's are going away; and there's some nice close-out deals (while they last) on these. They're a bit heavy but all-metal frame and very accurate.
My other choice would be a 3rd gen S&W CS9 Chief's Special, disco'd in 2006 so hard to find and $$. And then I'd have the additional cost of upgrading sights, etc.

If this P365 has the right trigger, it might just fill the bill.
The right size between my micro-carry Sig 290rs and chunky RAMI BD.

Please keep us posted.  O0

Wow nice pick up! I held one at my LGS and was thoroughly impressed. I?ll prob end up getting one once they work out all the kinks. Enjoy it!!

Have you considered the DAO Kahr CM9/Pm9?  They're great EDC pistols and seem to fit your needs.

When I shopped for a micro-9 I considered a Kahr; but noone had one to try, so I went with the Sig 290rs. 6+1 or 8+1 mags. Trigger is looong and heavy like 9-10lbs. but reasonably smooth. I'm used to DAO revolvers so I shoot the Sig OK 7 yards and in. I like the Siglite night sights and it point shoots really well for me, but I may still look to trade an extra pistol I have toward a used Kahr PM9 with night sights to give it a good try. It's the only other micro-9 that might do it as my Summer pocket carry. Trigger might be more to my liking and 7+1 hits the sweet spot.

Meanwhile, the Sig P365 would be thinner and not as chunky as my beloved RAMI BD with similar capacity.  We'll have to see.

Vinny - what about a P938?   Didn?t like it?
Title: Re: Picked up a Sig P365 today

I?ll be going to the range tomorrow hopefully so I?ll report back with my thoughts.

I have a bunch of the smaller carry guns (P238, G42, G43, Shield, Kahr CW380, both Rami?s, P30SK, P239) and have owned a P938, XDS, EMP9 and more that I don?t recall.

I?ll give an assessment on how it stacks up.

I will say just dry firing it?s trigger feels less than 6.5 lbs.  I find the trigger very nice

Good suggestion.
The P938 shot the best of about 8 different micro-9's I tried. It's really nice, good sights, great trigger and a surprisingly accurate little bugger. Although I own several 1911's; I don't want to carry cocked/locked SAO with safety. I know many would disagree, just my choice that I prefer DA/SA or a good smooth DAO. I like that 1st round DA; all my CZ's are DA/SA de-cockers.

BTW....
Some of the micro-9's I tried were just not well made (read: junk). At the time two years ago, the Sig P290rs or Kahr PM-9 was as close as I could get to what I wanted in a micro.
The build quality on that micro Sig is ...well...it feels like a real gun. The Glock 43 was OK too, but I don't prefer strikers for carry.

P290rs came with both the 6+1 or 8+1 magazines providing max capacity in that size gun. However, contrary to what I thought at the time; I actually learned to shoot the 6 round mag very well two-fingered with my pinky locked under the mag and my strong hand thumb squeezing down locked over my support thumb. I can't get 3 fingers on my RAMI 10 round mag either; and use the same grip. Works for me.

I did and sorry to say it did not go well

In fact on its way back to Sig right now

Couple failure to extracts and more troubling is peening of the slide

It?s very hit or miss with the P365.  You either get a good one or one with issues

Take a look over on the Sig Talk forums.  You?ll see the good and bad

One thing of note is this sucker is loud.  And I mean with foamies and muffs on it was almost too loud.

We will see if Sig corrects the issues with the barrel and FTE?s

Oh also be careful of that slide stop.  It?s very easy to not have the slide lock back on the last round with a traditional thumbs forward grip (typical Sig lol)

When Sig first came out with the P290 micro-9; apparently there were issues.
They reworked the design and added 're-strike' capability and re-inro'd it as the P290rs. Now unfortunately; after too little too late it's been disco'd. The P239 a fine DA/SA single-stack sub-compact has also been disco'd I suppose to make room for their new wonder pistol....the P365.

The P365 has the potential to be a 'do-all' carry gun if they can only work out the bugs.

Let's hope.

Please keep us posted after you get it back from Sig.

I had a chance to shoot a 365 yesterday and was really impressed with how it felt given the size of the gun.  It's a lot smaller in person than it tends to look in photos but shoots like a larger gun.  I currently have a Sig P238 and Sig P938 and it's every bit as shootable as those are.  I used to have a PF9 and hated that thing.  The Sig is nothing like that at all.  It feels like a 3/4 scale version of a P320.

Yeah....that tapered magazine is the whole deal. If it feeds reliably.
I saw a recent review where they went through 500 flawless rounds feeding all kinds of ammo.

They reported a measured trigger pull averaging about 6-1/4 lbs. IMO that's about perfect for an EDC if it's smooth with a short reset. I personally wouldn't want the trigger any lighter in MY pocket.

And now that they've switched to the X-Ray 3 sights that's a big plus (I have them on my new P229 and they're excellent!).

So, we'll look forward to a report from 2Tango2 after receiving his re-worked P365 back from Sig.

I have been shooting a Sig P320c with great success; accurate, good sights, ,smooth trigger, fits my hands.
The P365 is a wee version of the 320c, I shot a friends P365 and it felt just as good as the P320.
I wish them luck with it, it should be a great carry gun. Unfortunately were I am located (Maryland) is is almost impossible
to get a carry permit.

Sorry lost track of time. I received the P365 back from Sig last Friday.  Quick turn around on their part.   3 days maybe?   Being 30-35 minutes away from the Sig Mothership helps too

That?s the good news. The bad news is I have not had an opportunity to shoot it as of yet.  They replaced the barrel and fired s number of rounds through it.  Said no malfunctions Taking a look at the barrel it looks like it?s going to have that little wear spot in the corner of the hood. I think it?s unavoidable on some P365s.  It?s odd how some guys P365s look mint And others look like they?ve had 20,000 rounds fired through them after one range session

I think mine fall somewhere in between LOL. I will try to get out this weekend and get back with an updated report

I am sorry to hear that you had trouble with this nice gun. Thank you for posting and informing us.
I was contemplating this one, but still have hots for P229 Legion, and I am surprised I didn't see that on the list of your carry guns.
Too heavy ?
I have (and love) that little P30sk - which is my summer carry gun.

Shot it about a couple of hours ago in the snow rain drizzle and 30 degrees.     The good news is 0 failures or stoppages this time out.....fired 180 rounds

Barrel shows a bit of wear but not to the extent the other it replaced

Still undecided if it is a worthy replacement for either my Glock 42 or 43

I?ve owned a few P229s but am finding myself more partial to the 226 [emoji16]

I received a P365 for a customer on Friday.  I checked it out when he picked it up.  I have very large hands (2xl golf glove) and I just couldn't hold it comfortably.  If it had a large back-strap it probably would be fine.  I still have one on back-order anyway, LOL.

I got one on Tuesday from Academy. Second time I had stopped in there after hearing they were trickling in. Missed out on the first three they got. Tuesday I got the last one and had to ask as it was in the safe and not in the display case.

I already had a 12 round magazine so after looking for non existent turkeys in the morning my friend and I fired about 200 rounds from the P365.
Smooth light trigger with short reset. I shot about 40 Federal HST 124's and the rest were handloaded JHP bullets. No problems at all. A really sweet gun to shoot and not bad with the flush magazine either.
I found myself shooting slightly low but I hate three dot sights and I think that was my problem but as they are nice night sights and this is a defensive gun not a target gun, I concentrated on keeping the front sight up a hair and after that all my hits were dead center. Before they were about 4" low but still would have stopped a bad guy.
Thousands of these on backorder or wait list everywhere but they are showing up. I didn't think anything would replace my Shield but slight smaller and more rounds, the Sig might just do it. I am mostly a CZ guy and this is the first Sig I have ever owned.

I have three Sigs and for me they all shoot dead center with a 'Combat' sight picture.....placing the front dot right over the target bull's eye.  I love my RAMI BD but it's a bit chubby for EDC. The Sig 365 just might do it.

Add me to the potential buy list. Almost the same size as my G43 and smaller than my PPS M2, that is impressive for a gun with 10+1 capacity.

I arrived too late today at my LGS; Two came in this morning, and within 10 minutes they were GONE!

I got an email at 1pm saying they were IN STOCK at DEGUNS, and by 5pm when I read the email; they were GONE!

I guess my only solace is that the longer I have to wait....hopefully the better they'll get.  ::)

I just checked one out at a LGS today, just dry firing and handling.

It really is quite impressive how small they were able to get this 10+1 9mm to be.  And although the grip itself is very small in my medium-large hands, it still feels like a solid purchase and not oddly small like on a Glock 43 or one of those micro Kahrs.  The trigger (any least dry fired) feels quite good , a simple makeup and break, probably smoother overall than the P320.

I am really not in the market for this pistol, but it is quite hard not to want one just for the achievement that it is as a platform.  If it holds up and proves reliable and durable, then I really do believe it is a major step forward in carry pistols.  I still probably wouldn't carry one appendix like I do my grip-safetied SA XDs and DA/SA CZ PCR.  But it truly is a handy little nine that holds as much as my state-limited-capacity full-sized 9mm guns.  At the very least, I think it would make an outstanding backup gun discreetly tucked away or on an ankle.  A 10+1 rd 9mm that's smaller and lighter than a Walther PPK, and probably shoots better as well?  Heck yes!

So after checking one out, my first impressions are kudos to Sig on the design.  May have to pick one up once all the hype dies down a bit.  But it's worth the hype, IMO.

It?s big for pocket carry, IMO. P238 or BG is as big as I would go.

I have a Shield, would never consider pocket carry.

I've pocket carried my G43 in a pinch once or twice. Not even close to ideal, a 42 fits much better. Even though the 43 fit, I'm not  confident at all that it wouldn't have hung up when drawn.
