If you are to replace the plastic guide rod in a P-10C with a steel one from our friends at Cajun, can you use the stock spring or is the stock arrangement not meant to be disassembled? BTW, the stock spring, is it an 18lb spring? If you have to buy a new spring, assuming you shoot primarily standard (non-+p) loads, what is recommended?

You can use the OEM spring.
15lb will run much smoother though. These guns are very over sprung from the factory.

Seconded. The 15# spring works very well across a wide variety of factory ammo.

I am running the Gray Guns super black stainless steel guide rod with a 15 pound recoil spring and my P-10 runs like a champ. Very smooth cycling with no issues whatsoever. Highly recommend it.

I would at least change to the 18lb spring and leave your original intact if you ever want to put it back to stock, JMHO. I am running the 15lb also and have never had an issue.

I have not found any ammo it will not run with. Like Raining_Brass stated (and he would know), they are way over-sprung from the factory. Get both the 18lb and 15lb springs and try em both, but lots of folks are running the 15 with no issues.

The plastic guide rod is fine. The advantage of the steel guide rod is being able to tune the recoil spring to the ammo.
Really you should choose recoil spring weight based on the ejection pattern of your chosen ammo. I look for consistent ejection about 6-7 feet away.
Also, lightening the recoil spring can increase felt recoil a bit. Recoil is very subjective though ;-)
Going too heavy tends to lead to malfunctions (FTF, FTE) while going too light causes excessive wear on the gun and leads to a broken slide stop among other problems.
