Title: CZ Bren 2 vs HK M27
Post by: CZBren805 on October 26, 2018, 01:42:34 PM
In a no holds barred fight, who would win the grudge match between the Bren 2 and the HK M27?  Two excellent firearms enter the ring but only one can leave.  Which one survives to claim the World Weapons Federation Title?

Who could say which would win.
I started buying HK in the late 70's. Since then, they have become unfriendly to civilians. HK is running on legend from past decades - their tank is running close to empty yet they are getting premium prices to be not a customer friendly company. Currently, I am down to four HK's, thinking about recycling them into something I really enjoy - like CZ products.
The rest of the industry seems to be largely in the doldrums but CZ keepS hitting home runs with new products that perform well and are priced to not insult.
On the other hand, all HK could do was to appropriate 60 year old AR style technology - hardly innovative. Too bad because they have some really more interesting technology lines they could have developed to keep the HK line innovative.
My heart, money and respect go to CZ.
IMHO

The CZ is lighter, fully ambi, folding stock, suppressor capable without needing a flow-through design, modular mag well, barrel change at the user level, etc...

I don't own a Bren 2, but between those two, I see the Bren 2 as being a forward looking system for the 21st century, and the HK basically an unholy marriage of the AR18 and AR15 built for the previous generation.

I really don't see the HK416 family as a new generation design.

The 416 was Ernst Mauch's dream rifle.  He basically mated the G36's gas system to an AR15.  And even that's not new, as it's basically a self-regulating version of the AR18's gas system.

The 416A5/F model is fully ambi and the upcoming 433 (A modernized G36/416 hybrid) does have user level barrel changes.

And to be fair, mechanically, the Bren 2 is a modernized AR18.  Just like the FN SCAR, G36, and other short stroke piston/6 or 7 lug bolt/squarish bolt carrier rifles.

I like both designs, but I would give the AR18 based rifles (like the Bren 2) a bit of an edge because they don't require a buffer tube stock for the recoil spring, so they can have a folding stock.

Interesting history video courtesy of Mr. Bartocci on the AR18 which he believes was the operating system design predecessor to many of the most successful semi-auto rifles including the Bren family.  Link to specific location in video below:
