Title: Warne QD Ring Height for 527FS w/Nikon 2-7x32?
Post by: AMM on October 28, 2018, 11:55:06 AM
Hi all,

I am planning to procure a 527FS in .223/5.56 and mount a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32.  The rifle will be a newer model with the revised bolt handle.

Can anyone please confirm from experience that the Warne Medium QD rings (Part #14B1LM)  are the optimal height for this scope on a 527FS?

Cheers!

I don't have a CZ 527 or a Nikon 2-7x32 scope, but here's a little trick -

set the rifle on a rest that keeps it level (a shooting or cleaning rest is good)

set the scope on two equal stacks of quarters adjusting until you get the height you want the scope at

measure the height of the stack and buy scope rings that high (or the next highest one available) to get the mount you want

For what it's worth I have a Warne medium ring height listed as .445". Using Eastman's quarters trick six quarters went a little over .4 and seven quarters went about .475". If it clears with six you should be good to go. This last bit isn't going to help but I have three of the full stock all fitted with Leupold 1-4X scopes and Calhoun rings (.425" ?) and the older style bolt handles. All the bolt handles required modification. Some of Nikon's scopes get a little chunky around the objective. Good Luck

I have used the Warne Maxima medium QD on my 527 Carbine with a Leupold VX-I 2-7x33 scope to good affect.  The bolt handle is the new, low profile, style and I have about 0.1" clearance between the handle and the eyepiece.  However, the Nikon you mention has an eyepiece diameter of 1.73" where my Leupold is 1.56".  A quick calculation shows you would end up with .015" of clearance, which seems pretty snug.

Edit to change estimate of clearance for the Nikon scope.
