I've seen this pistol come up recently on some sites. It's called the EAA Tanfoglio Witness Pro that has a bull barrel, adjustable rear sight and a safety. UPC is 741566903632 and retails for around $550. What's the catch about this gun? I was going to get a witness steel for a woods gun but this is a bit cheaper and sounds better.
I don't see these on the EAA site. Is this new?

I remember hearing about frame cracking back in the day. Would either of these be okay to handle hard cast Underwood woods ammo?

No direct experience with that model, but I like that more than some of the other higher end offerings. I believe it to be a new offering and the EAA Website is almost always lacking info on some models. It should be able to handle all commercial 10mm ammunition without issue, but I would experiment with different Recoil Spring weights and maybe either a Hennings Recoil Spring Guide Rod or a Sprinco Recoil Reducer.
My understanding is that the Frame and Slide Cracking Issues have been dealt with by the Importer and Tanfoglio and should no longer be an issue.

A wealth of information. So very thankful for your post. The one review that I saw said it was fun to shoot and accurate with almost no aftermarket options and heavy. It's supposed to be a special run, as well.
That suits me fine as I just want a woods gun that's a bit more safe than my Springfield XD with the 460 Rowland conversion.
Love my CZs so I figured why not? Don't know the wonder finish on the Steel but ive had stainless guns gall on me and so I'm trying to avoid.
Last question: Are the grips standard size? I saw the stippled wooden grips on the EAA site as well as the plastic grips of the witness stainless. Would really like some rubber grips like the CZ P-01 has from the factory. Maybe G10 like this?

I called and spoke to EAA, the Witness Pro is a Tanfoglio limited run of normal Witness tac-rail frames with the Stock II bull-barrel/slide/RSA. It's such a small run that they aren't listing it on the website or in the catalog.

Well I got a 20# Wolff spring kit from Midway and if that doesn't work, I'll get the Sprinco kit.
This is an interesting pistol. It has a coned bull barrel. Don't the more expensive pistols have this?

If you get the Sprinco kit, you can probably get away with an 18# Recoil Spring.
That was the combination that worked for me with my .45 Super Conversion.

Welp, I've installed the Henning guide rod, 20# Wolff recoil spring and the extra power firing pin spring that came with it, as well as the brass shock buffer.
Range report next week or when I get to the range. Any words of advice?

Sorry for the absence. The gun is a keeper!
Great fit and finish. Others have complained about easy rusting. Living in Arizona it's not much of a concern. I did manage to carry it IWB for a week in hot humid Texas weather and I didn't see any rusting fwiw. It was very accurate right ot of the box, similar to my P01, but of course, in 10mm.
I used Partizan 180 grain JHP and one malfunction within the first 100 rounds. To be fair, I had the Henning shock buffer ring installed at the time. Afterwards, a flawless 200 rounds with the new spring and no buffer.
Replaced the front sight with a shorter fiber optic Dawson Precision (.140T X .090W) and its even better.
I don't know why this is a bit cheaper than the Witness Steel other than the finish. IMO it's a prettier gun. It only came with one 14 round magazine, so that might be part of it.
Grips are wide, so this wouldn't be too comfortable for small hands, but my 5'7" 135lb wife was able to handle it with no problems and liked shooting it much better than my Glock 22.
I'd replace the grips with thinner Henning grips or LOK grips when they start making them in December.
Great gun, if you are on the fence, get it. They are a limited run for now.

The mags were both Tanfoglio and I was running it with the 20# spring and Hennings conefit guide rod. When I had the FTF I was also using the Hennings brass shock buffer. They warn about reliability when using it. The other 200 rounds were without the shock buffer and ran just fine. Didn't notice any frame battering, but I was just using the Partizan and they aren't hot.
Frame and slide are blued, I filled a couple sharp edges, the front-left edge of the slide and the corner of the rail on the same side, as well as the dust cover, revealing shiny steel, to which I applied Birchwood-Casey Super Blue with no issues.
Indeed, it does come with a conical bull barrel.

Thank you. Kinda suprised the mags aren’t Mec-gar. I recall EAA having an issue with the Tanfoglio mags a few years back. They switched to mecgar at that time. Maybe it has been resolved. Seems like this deal offers the bull barrel with no up charge. Not bad.

Mines coming in Tuesday I just ordered that sight. I am also going to put the Hennings rod and 20# spring it. To handle the Buffalo Bore I ordered to shoot pigs.
