Title: Why is the Shadow 2 orange so great?
Post by: Macgruber81 on September 13, 2019, 12:20:27 AM
I was at my LGS the other day and saw that they had both a standard Shadow 2 (blue grips) and a Shadow Orange.  The orange was about $2100, which was about $800 more than the regular Shadow 2.   I asked to hold both of them and honestly I preferred the feel of the standard Shadow 2 in every way.  They are very similar though I noticed that the grip front and back strap checkering is much more grippy and positive on the standard than the more expensive Orange.

I can’t remember exactly though I feel like the sights were pretty much the same.   Trigger was actually better in the standard as well.  So why then is there such a price difference and what does the orange have that the standard 2 doesn’t?   I find it interesting as the TSO, which feels better than both of them to me is still about $400 less than the Shadow Orange!   Though I love the feel of the Shadow 2, the TSO feels like a higher end gun all around, so what gives?   Is the Shadow Orange just more “rare”?

I can really help with firsthand experience between these two guns, but the descriptions of these guns on czcustom and/or oakhillguns websites should describe them fairly well.

I will say that the price you are seeing for the orange ($2,100) seems way high.  I think when in stock at oakhillguns they are less than $1,500.  Also, it sounds like the shadow 2 price you saw was about $1,300 (2100 - 800), which seems high too.  I think you can get them under 1200 and maybe closer to 1100.

The Shadow 2 Orange, comes with a 1911 style barrel bushing.

CZC sells Accu Shadow, Accu Shadow 2, Accu TS, Accu Bull Shadow 2 etc with similar 1911 style CZC made and modified barrel bushings. These pistols are priced from $1700 to i think $ 2200, you may check on CZC website.

Without the 1911 style bushing, the Shadow 2 should be priced in the ball park mentioned above.

check the link, prices of quite a few variants of Shadow 2 and accu Shadow etc. Mostly out of stock though.

From the CZ website:
"Turning the Shadow 2 up a notch, the biggest addition on the Orange is a barrel bushing that increases slide-to-barrel fit, resulting in tighter groups. Not as obvious is a factory-tuned trigger with short reset and the hand-fitting of the slide and frame.
With many of the same great features that have made the Shadow 2 dominant in USPSA Production Division, the Orange wears a set of signature grips, mag bases and mag release button to set it apart from the standard pistols"

That being said I have a shadow 2 with blue grips ($1,150) and my wife the shadow 2 with orange handles ($1,510 Gunbroker auction) in reality if I shoot both guns the targets are identical.
