Title: Engrave SBR info on Bren 2
Post by: mikec on October 20, 2019, 03:32:12 PM
If you have done it, what is the best or least conspicuous place on Bren 2s aluminum receiver?  Pictures?  Did you have it done mechanically or by laser?  Did you leave engraving raw or use some touch up paint and a tiny brush?  How do you avoid messing up adjacent receiver finish?

I did my ACR in the picatinny slots. Name in one slot, city/state in another. I mount my optic over it.

I don't have a bren, so, I'm assuming the magwell is part of the receiver like most other firearms.

It's not, the upper is the serialized receiver. The magwell is also modular and not even part of the lower receiver.

I don't believe this is correct.  The Bren 2 has a single piece lower unlike the S1.

I did mine on the right side of the receiver right above the words "CZ USA, KANSAS CITY, KS"

(Sorry, I had to Zuckerproof the serial number.  LOL)

Thanks.  Laser, mechanical ball or tungsten rod engraving?  Cannot see details how well engraving turned out, but I will assume it is flawless.   Some examples of engraving I have seen in the past have had somewhat unsharp definition and/or rounded corners on some of the letters, presumably from a mechanical ball engraving.  What white paint did you fill engraving with?  How does it hold up to occasional exposure to gun cleaners?

If you can find someone who can do deep laser engraving (not just any laser engraving will me ATF requirements of how deep into the material it has to be) laser engraving is the way to go.

Yeah, you're right. They use an insert in the magwell for different calibers on the Bren 2

The shop told me it was laser engraving.  Very happy with the result.  The letters are sharp and looked as good as the original engraving.  He used different fonts on the four guns I engraved to match each of the original lettering.  Not sure what he did the color fill with, but it was included for free.
