Title: Ammo Cards
Post by: newageroman on June 21, 2020, 12:02:09 PM
Ok, so as a data nerd I got a laminator
I'm looking to make rifle ammo cards for batches of brass/bullets.
Will have the following data - am I missing anything? What would you want on custom laminated ammo cards. I CAN also throw a map marker in if needed to mark off stuff, but really looking more for reference, all the testing has been done, I'm settled on loads.

Bullet style/weight
BC
Brass Trim length
COAL
powder and charge\
velocity
firings (I will cut a notch on the side of the laminated card to count firings)
Annealings?
Drop (inches and clicks) at the following - assumed 100yd zero (300, 500, 600, 750, 1k)
What else am I missing? I'm hoping to keep these cards in the original rifle ammo box, so they can be double sided, but probably about the same size as a credit card, maybe a little larger.

A date is always very useful when you find one of these boxes in the back of the closet, God-only-knows how far into the future.

Ok, got the ammo cards created and laminated.  - I'm such a data nerd - my next project is a pocket protector...
The main thing I learned was to make the card the size of the ammo box. I made the berger card to fit the ELDX box and the berger boxes are more square so I had to bend the card around - ohh first world problems...
I also wanted to try color cards , but only have Black in, so hence the BW print.
So I was going to go all photoshop on this, but for simplistics I did it in powerpoint and then exported to .jpg and then printed, then laminated. Used the $20 amazon laminator.
Attaching the files, I'm going to do the same for the rest of my rifles. Just cards to stick in the bag or pin to the inside of the case or wrap the stock.

Well I tried out my cards yesterday and it wen't so so.
I was on great up to 600, then fell apart at 750, I think my do'e was bad, and I left my sterlock at home because who need that right...well..
I decided to go back and add one more column for inches drop. Hence, what is the inches drop for 100 0 zero at this yardage. I think this would have helped yesterday because even though I didn't have my calculator, if I had known the inches drop at 750 and 600 I could have made the adjustment and shot at 600 to confirm inches drop and then move to the 750 yd target.

It was still a great day. the 03A3 was king ringing steel out to 500. My last shots with it were bouncing around between 200-500 yards with the last 10 or so bullets and about 90 seconds left on the clock until cold range. It was great!

I sized the cards to fit inside the stock bullet boxes I carry them in. I'm thinking of moving the ballistics table on the back to have bigger font/more rows. While this isn't a big deal for these rifles, I could see it being a huge deal for variable power or BDC scopes or horus reticles. I need to make one for my 2 different loads for my AR with BDC, but I really don't care for ARs so....

I would think that a version like this that has the reticle and common color coded range holdovers on the left side with the full drop table on the right side would be cool. I could see that being more the size of a dollar bill and being folded in half to prop itself up. Once I get all my dope confirmed, I'm going to put one on each side of the buttstock. Wind value inc drift at known yardage would be cool too  (I'm not that good at wind yet). I think I just talked myself into a double sided version now... great...

Any other ideas on these shooting cards or custom rifle ballistics cards?
