Title: 457 trainer
Post by: Slvrbak on March 24, 2021, 07:46:40 PM
I just picked up the trainer from my FFL.  What a super nice rifle. That bolt is slick.  I am sure I am preaching to the choir.
The balance is great. There doesn't seem to be any nose heavines when standing and shouldering the rifle.  the trigger is very clean. Very nice out of the box trigger.  Finish is what you would expect.   All in  all an excellent firearm

Anyway I had the desire to get a decent bolt 22lr and cz came to mind right away.  I couldn't find anything other than the trainer.  So naturally I bought it. Then I started doing some research and found some info on the ruger precision 22lr.
I heard the ruger precision 22lr was shooting on par with the cz 457 and sometimes better.  I have 1022 mags and that seemed to be an added bonus.

It was too late to cancel my cz order. so I will have both for a while to do
My own comparison.

Now this is going to be with.bulk ammo . That's all I have but it should be fair as both guns will be using same ammo.

If the precisions bolt is anything like the american bolt I will.need to polish it.

I sold the american because that bolt was rough.

I hope this one will be better.  There are several  things I like about the precision.   All of  which is was going to do to the trainer as time would allow. Now I just want to see which one will perform the best.

I think I just heard my credit card weeping.

I don't believe it will be a fair comparison using the same ammo in both guns.  Different guns like different ammo.  I can see finding what ammo each gun likes, that is in the same price bracket, then performing the comparison.  That would be a valid test.  But I don't believe using just one ammo will tell you much of anything except one rifle shoots that particular ammo better than the other.

Just a thought.

If I could find ammo to do that I would.  So I am going with what I have

Try that "ammo seek" search site and plug in your needs.
My 457 loves that eley club. I was able to get 300 rds for $80.
Pick up a box or 2 of different ammo and then test it. Once you know what it prefers, look for quantities of that.

Ouch prices are high!  Well maybe it will take time to try various types of ammo.  I have to pay off credit card for recent purchase first.
Cant wait to get to range with cz457. It's such a well made and balanced gun. Beautiful!!!

I agree with @vern56 find three or four different brands and run them. Might get surprised, but you'll definitely find a groove for the rifles, and, as an added bonus, outstanding range time!
