Title: P-07 SS Guide Rod/Spring Issue
Post by: Navy87Guy on May 06, 2021, 07:52:34 PM
Has anyone tried the CGW stainless steel guide rod and spring for the P-07? I got the rod and their 18# spring (they only offer 18 and 15 - factory is 20#) and installed them today. The insert says the ideal spring ejects the casings 6-8 feet. With the 18# installed, they were barely falling out of the gun...and most of them fell within 6 inches!

I also had several FTE and jams...something that I never experienced with the factory captured rod. Needless to say, I changed back to the factory rod. (That was after I cleaned all the yellow paint flakes out of the slide from the 18# spring!  :( )

I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience.

I had the stainless steel guide rod and blue spring in my P-07 for well over 12,000 rounds with zero failures. Sounds like your ammo could be underpowered for that recoil spring. Have you called them to address your concerns?

No problems with mine either. How far do the same cases eject with the heavier oem spring?  What brand/type of ammo?

They go a good 4-6 ft with the OEM captured rod/spring. According to CGW's website, they should go at least 8-10 ft with the 2 lb reduction (they don't offer a full strength spring - 18 is the heaviest). I'm shooting Buffalo 115-gr FMJ, which has been flawless in everything else I've tried (incl the P-07 with factory set up).

If this is the ammo you're using, it's actually a  pretty light load for commercial 115fmj. They list muzzle velocity at 1148fps, if you happened to get a batch that's loaded lighter than what they advertise, that could cause cycling/ejection issues. Have you tried the lightest spring from your kit? I'm surprised the oem spring ejects cases further than the lighter CGW spring- unless it's worn out.
Do you notice any unusual drag when manually cycling the slide with the CGW parts installed?
As far as optimal ejection distance,  that guideline is ammo dependent as well. So to say that 6-8 feet is optimal means you tailor the spring weight to the power of your chosen ammo. The 15lb spring may be better suited for low-power 115fmj like you're using.
If the slide is dragging when manually cycled, I would give CGW a call directly.
