Title: CZ 527 Feed Solution?
Post by: n-300RN on November 17, 2006, 08:33:04 PM
Has CZ fixed the feeding problems with the 527 rifle mags yet?

I had my 3 replaced by CZ some time ago but they didn't work either.

Pretty frustrated, as I like the rifle very much, but a rifle that doesn't feed reliably is trouble.

I have tried adjusting spring tension, polishing the inside of the mags, adjusting the feed lips, the works.  The rifle will feed MOST of the time, but the 3rd and last round of a magazine is frequently trouble.

My 525 Carbine (7.62x39) feeds great. Even if I work the bolt as fast as I can.

Just bought another 527 Varnmint (204 ruger) and have't tried it yet.

William Mc:

Was 525 a typo or a new model I'm not familiar with?  You also mention 527 so I'm confused.

When did you get your rifle?  I have read almost nothing but trouble with feeding in these 7.62x39 rifles so that's why I'm curious.  When I called CZ some time ago they readily admitted they have a lot of problems with the magazines.  The magazine engineering is pretty poor with the tipping follower and problematic spring.  Really shouldn't be considering they are a simple single stack.

If you have one that works perfectly hang on to it!!  They are gems, but frustrating gems as long as I cannot trust the feed situation.  Very frustrating.

Anybody know if any other spring exists that might fit?  Anschutz for example?  I checked Wolff site and they do not list a spring for the 527.

300RN: I used to have feed problems as well, but I solved them. In my case, it was not the magazines exactly, rather it was how they fit into the magazine well. To find out if my method will help you, take your barreled action out of your stock. Next put the bottom metal and barreled action back together out of the stock using the front and rear action screws. Screw each just until it bottoms out and is snug without bending the bottom metal or the action. Your bottom metal should not be able to rock in its place if it is snug. Now place a loaded magazine into the magazine well and push it up until the two magazine lips (one on the front of the magazine and one one the rear) bottom out in their proper resting places. Use one hand to hold it in place as well as you can and now cycle the bolt. In my case, it eliminated any rough cycling stopped the bolt from not properly picking up each cartridge. If your problem is eliminated to, then you have an excess bedding problem. What you need to do is when your bottom metal and barreled action are together just right out of the stock, count the number of total revolutions of the screw head on each screw. Next, take the barreled action and bottom metal apart and re-install the barreled action and the bottom metal back into the stock. Count the number of total revolutions it took for the front screw to firm up, and then how many it took the back screw to firm up. It should be fewer on both than what it took you to firm them up when the barreled action was out of the stock. You need to remove wood from the where the metal meets the stock. I removed it from the bottom side of the stock because it was easier. If you accidentally remove too much, then simply use some glassbedding material on the bottom of the stock where the tangs meet the wood. The closer you can get to the number of revolutions it took to snug the bottom metal and receiver out of the stock the better. Be very carefull of the magazine catch spring as this is very easy to break. In fact, I always keep an extra I got from CZ-USA on hand. I do not have a 7.62x39, but rather a .223 Remington. After trying all of the things you did I tried what I just described and now I have no problems with feeding, during a fast cycle or slow cycle. Good luck with it. Those little CZ 527 is one heck of a rifle. In fact, so is the CZ 550. Tom Purdom

THANKS!

I will get at this as soon as possible and will report back.

Has CZ ever changed their inletting specs on these rifles to solve this problem?

Bad news...

No dice.

I did the whole program and there is no more room for the bottom metal to move upwards.  Removing wood won't help.

Maybe CZ can...

I hope so.

Look at the pictures further down.

It's about bending the lips.

Yer gunna hate me...

Tried that, too.

Best solution so far is to place the spring rear to the rear of the follower and use two springs.  I get pretty good reliability there, but not 100%.

I guess I must be the luckest fellow. I have no problem except for that firing pin spring and if I had check the head spacing, it would have ben OK anyway.

I had two of three new 7.62x39 magazines defective, including the one that came with the rifle. I sent them back to CZ and they replaced them at no charge.  All three mags now work dependably.
If I only could fix the misfire problem.........
This is a neat, fun-to-shoot rifle but it's hard to love.
Thanks.

I have a similar problem with CZ 527 .223 Rem.  Feed problems.  After removing the receiver from the stock, I found out the floorplate mag well was not matching up with the receiver.  It would totter when pushed on alternating ends.  Took the well of and flattened the bottom with a diamond stone.  It did have a bulge and once I got it uniformly flat and carefully re-inserted it in the receiver so it didn't get hung up on the receiver recess, it allowed it to be seated better and it works now.  I suppose when they punched in the little rectangle openings for the mag lock, it pushed a little metal out of place.
