Title: CZ 75B SA in 40 S&W
Post by: Dan on August 02, 2005, 07:08:41 PM
Hello,
I have a CZ 75B SA in 9mm.  I am thinking of buying the same pistol (CZ 75 B), only in 40 S&W caliber.  But, I have tried numerous others, including S&W, Glock, Springfield Armory, Tangfolio, etc. and I am a terrible shot at the range in 40 S&W with all of them, becaue I feel it is caused by the sharper recoil (although I don't seem to have as much problem with recoil on my 45 ACP).  Is the CZ 75B SA in 40 S&W identical (nearly) as the 9mm version?  Will it fit in the same Fobus (BR2RP) holser I have for my 9mm?  Also, where can I get rubber grips for my CZ 75 Companct 9mm pistol?

The 75B SA in 9mm is different thanthe 75B SA in .40.  The slides are different.

I think the 75B SA in .40 has the same slide and frame as the  75B DA/SA in .40, and my 75B SA fits the BR-2 holster correctly.  (Mine is several years old, and th BR-2PR [right-handed paddle?] may be somewhat different.)

The .45 ACP is a low-pressure round, and the experience of the recoil is quite different than a .40 round.

As far as I know, only place to get rubber grips for the Compact is from CZ, or from a stocking dealer who has some on hand.  (Rubber grips are available from other sources for the full-size gun.)

I don't have a .40 SA to compare my 9mm SA to, but I was under the impression that the external slide dimensions on all SA's are the same.  FWIW, awhile back I bought a Kydex holster made for a DA/SA 75B and it wouldn't fit my 9mm SA because the slide was too thick at the muzzle end.  I had to send the holster back to Comp-tac for remolding.  (It's perfect now.)

I just double-checked.

I pulled out my 85 Combat (which uses the standard 75B slide), a 75B SA in 9mm, and a 75B DA/SA in .40.

As I understand it, the 75B .40 in DA/SA uses the same slide and frame as the 75B .40 SA model. If that is correct, the 75B SA in 9mm and 75B SA in .40 are not the same -- but they are very, very similar.  Both are quite different than the standard 9mm 75B slide.

The .40 slide has a full rail going all the way to the end of the slide, while the 9mm rail is truncated at the end of the frame.  Its very noticeable when looked at, head on.  That could matter in a tight-fitting kydex holster, but probably not in a leather one.  Neither would fit in a kydex that was formed to hold the 75B or 85B or 85 Combat.

The frames seem to be different only in that the beavertail on the 75B SA 9mm is curved up.

The .40 uses a Full Length Guide Rod, the 9mm doesn't.

When I compare a 75B/85Combat frame to a 75B SA frame, everything I can measure seems the same.  The same seems true for the .40 frame, too.

(Note: I was using a digital micrometer to make the measurement -- but the display started blinking, indicating the battery was getting low.  I don't know how valid the readings are -- but they were virtually identical until the blinking began.)
