Around 7,000 full house rounds, with no signs of giving up the ghost quite yet!

Hot reloads..or Double Tap 165/ 180 Gold Dots are what I feed it .

I've got two CZ Clones that I'm particularly happy with.

The first is factory stock, but feels and shoots like a custom gun -- a Sphinx Compact. Wonderful trigger, superior fit and finish. Exceptionally accurate.

The second is an AT-84s that was supposedly built by Jim Borland, a legendary gunsmith from the 80's and early 90's. (I can't prove it, except by comparing its custom work to others by the same gunsmith. But if you've seen other of his certified guns, you'll see many common features. No marks inside that I can find, however, to prove Borland's craftsmanship.) Lots of custom work, including a Bomar sight, mag well, extended controls, bobbed hammer, checkering on ffront and back straps, etc. (I had the slide nickel-plated at a later date, after the original finish became unattractive.) It has a trigger like butter -- similar to a S&W Model 52-2 I once had.

I set about, a year or so ago, trying to contact Borland to verify provenance only to find that he had died a few months before.

These are my two favorites, although I have a semi-custom CZ-75B SA that is almost as nice.

First time I've seen a BREN 10, although I heard a lot about them.

Beautiful gun!!

You're treating it like you would a high-quality collectible from WWII (and that's almost what it is, just newer.) You wouldn't want to shoot collectible C&R guns much, either.

(Parts might be an issue.. <grin>)

Beautiful pistol.  Wish I had bought one those many years ago.
After they hit the market, there was a lot of bad publicity regarding reliability.  Have you had problems?

These guns are really not to be shot anymore. Just put up and admired. I have all the spare parts I could ever use, but I choose not to shoot them anymore. But reliability wise, no issues. The Bren in the pic is THE BEST handling and shooting handgun I have EVER run across .

Boogalou,

I like your Match, is it a 45? I just got mine in 9mm. Did the wooden grips screw right on, and fit good? How do you like them compared to the OE rubber panels? The Match feels good in my hands, but if they slim it down noticeably, I'd order some. Where'd you get yours (the grips), and how much $$?

Thanks !!

Yes, it is a .45, and the grips you see are the standard ones that come with the Witness Stock. I did buy the walnut checkered grips that you can get from EAA.

http://eaacorp.com/parts-hand-gun-grips.html (http://)

and they also fit the Witness Match, so the grips are interchangeable with both guns.  The wood grips are slightly slimmer then the black rubber ones.

Fantastic pistol.  I am surprised that I rarely see these pistols--I get the feeling that they are very underrated.  I have put many rounds through a .40 Baby Eagle semi-compact and I wouldn't mind having one of their compact 9mms.

Thanks for posting--I've got a weak spot for those pistols!

Top one is a TA90, has "Combat Shooting Cohai" on the left side of the slide. The right has Israeli Shooting Association. I have no idea what this means.
Bottom one is an EAA with wonder finish. Both are absolutely great guns to shoot.

valhallawhenIdie,
I see you have CT grips on your P9C.
Did you order the model for the CZ75 Compact? Did you have any problems fitting it?
I have heard that the grip screw on the Tanfoglio clones is in a slightly different place compared to the CZ.

I shoot my CZ's in USPSA Production and love them. So I was going to buy a model 97 CZ in 45 ACP to add to my treasures. After researching extensively, I decided to try one of the Witness Steel full size in 45ACP instead. Wow,was I ever impressed. I have owned very expensive 1911's that did not shoot or group as well as the standard Witness Steel. The front sight does not allow interchangability on the standard; but you can purchase what EAA calls the "longslide conversion kit" and then add a fiber optic front sight. Did that!   Since the DA/SA standard was not practical for USPSA Limited 10; I just had to get the Elite Match in 45ACP. The attached images show that I have swapped the slides (the "longslide kit" is on the Elite Match frame; and the Elite Match slide is on the Standard frame). These have to be the best bang for the buck anywhere.

I really like it! So far I've got only 55 rounds through it, but I'm very happy. The trigger is great SA, heavy and long DA. Now if I can only find a holster for it. . . any ideas? With the full dust cover I haven't found anything that fits yet. She is a little wide in front!

Consider some of the Holsters for the Springfield XD and H&K USP or P30, for your MAPP1.  Also look at our Witness Holster thread.  Also, post this question in our regular Clone threads.  You'll get more of a response that way.

Yup, softest shooting forty I've ever shot and bleep accurate.  I was trying to sell it a wile back, but had no takers.  I decided to keep it now.  I did have some issues with the extended safety that was in it.  I put the stock one back in and the problems went away.  The stocker had a much more positive feeling on and off.

Here is somthing different an Witness Carry Comp! It has two recoil spings & a fixed front site. The comp is threaded on the barrel & the guide rod keeps it from unthreading. I have to get a ambi safety, a few mags, & a Hazel holster for it to be able to carry it. The other pistol is my M&P .40. As you can see I have BRD as well. That is my friend Jester the founder of the M&P-Pistol.com site & that is his fathers back yard. It's were I go to shoot. Enjoy!

I just picked up one that looks identical to this, except mine is an EAA Witness .40 PCarry, and the slide is silver, not black.  I can't wait to shoot it.  The gun just feels really good in my hand.  It's got a nice feel and weight.  I'll post some pics of it tomorrow.  I'm too tired right now.  Been a long week at work, and i still have to work tomorrow until 2:00 P.M.

The laser sight/flashlight combo i want to put on it.

I've heard nothing but good things about both.  Especially the Streamlight.   CTD(cheaperthandirt) has it and everyone gave it 5 bullets.  10 or more people bought it, so that says something about it.  The price is a little steep for me, but if that many people gave it that good of a review, who am i to complain?

This is the last Pin Gun I built:  Based on a small frame Witness 40 S&W it has the rear of the slide tighten and hand lapped, Trigger roll pin replaced with steel harden rod. The trigger bow and frame recess polished.  Breach face lightly polished, and the extractor radius and polished.  Hammer spring lighten, and increased power recoil spring installed.  The gun has a two pound single action pull and a double action pull at 5 1/2 to 6 pounds.   The mag is modified to accept extra rounds.    R S      (http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa176/rodslinger_2007/P1010094.jpg)

Well hi everyone. I have been going through the old site trying to find out which mags will fit my gun and was referred to the new site by jwc007. Just wanted to post my clone....Fratelli Tanfoglio TA90 9mm. It was purchased in '91 by my pops and passed down to me. Hopefully i can get some good info off the site on my gun.

Here's a shot of my EAA Witness full size .45 I bought new in 2000. I has some walnut grips I made and a compact slide/barrel for a "Commander" style. I will do some checkering on the grips this winter.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it with the compact barrel yet but I don't expect any change from the standard barrel it had.

Here's my CZ Clone.  It's an F.I.E. TZ-75 Pre-1988 model 9mm.  Had one of these back in the late '80's but had later traded it in on a Taurus PT-92.  Ran across this one recently when hunting for a 9mm for a buddy at my local gunshop.  I got all nostalgic about it and had to buy it so now I have it once again.  Just now finding out how tricky it is to find parts and accessories but am making some headway now.  This one was in very good shape and only required the gunsmith (at no charge to me) to go thru it and smooth out some rough spots.  Am going to change out the extractor (found one for a TA-90 that should work) and will eventually look into different sights and maybe a good re-bluing (with matte finish on top of the slide).  I read in some posts that these aren't looked at as all that reliable.  Can't imagine why (unless they have worn parts- which is with any older gun) because these are very simple and in many ways better than the first CZ's.  I'm satisfied with mine in the way it functions and it was dead-on with my first shot with it.

;D I posted this elsewhere but figured I'd put it here too. My newly acquired TZ75 series 88 pictured with my cZ 75 BD in the first picture. Haven't had a chance to shoot the clone yet. I plan on trying it out with the short barrel with 9mm Para ammo, then I'll install the long barrel and compensator and shoot some 9x21 Fiocchi ammo I just ordered. Trigger on the TZ is buttery smooth, should be fun. I picked the TZ up with both barrels and comp, two mags, and an LPA low-profile adjustable sight (although I'm not sure if the sight fits my gun), all for $350. Hope it shoots as well as my CZ does. Thanks, Shoo

My 85 model TZ75 9mm.  It has 7000-8000 rounds in from me alone, not sure how many from the original owner/owners before I got it in 98.  Slide to frame fit is just as tight as my 2005 stainless CZ75B and both are excellent shooters.  It did need a new firing pin about 2 years ago and gets serviced with Wolff springs when needed.

Hey mm6, Nice rig, love all the conversion kits so you can shoot whatever you'd like. How's the .22 conversion, does it function okay ? I went to the site you posted but could not find the slides and barrel kits. Looks like I may have to possibly sell some stuff and look into maybe getting one of these Tanfoglio's. I do have an older TZ 75 series 88 already, wonder if these kits would fit the old girl too ? Did your Tanfoglio come with a factory fired case ? Gotta have a fired case for sale in New York. Thanks for your time, Shoo

I emailed Reed's last week about getting a conversion kit.  They are not selling any at this time due to EAA not having any conversions readily available.  It seems they are back-ordered forever!  I Think EAA is just trying to control things just a little too much.  I did call EAA and the nice girl I spoke with said they had conversion kits in stock.

Nice gun. You do know that the holster doesn't go behind your belt though. It's a paddle holster and goes on the other side of your pants. No disrespect intended, at the tac classes I take, a lot of people do that when they first get them. Not very stable.

Quite a number of Paddle Holsters can be worn inside the pants as they are originally meant to be AND used outside the pants as Belt Holsters.  My Blachawk Serpa for my Taurus 24/7's in particular does double duty that way as the retention hooks grab under the lower edge of my belt.  It's possible to use Fobus Paddle Holsters that way, but they won't work as well and are best used as intended.

AS a aside,
Talking about putting the paddle inside your pants, or between pants & belt, the Blade-Tech I have has a adjustable shim with a retention hook that very securely clips under your belt...

noelb,
Nice looking NP-40.  How does it shoot?

As accurate out of the box as my Glock 22. The trigger in DA is a bit heavy, and there is a fair bit of creep in SA, but it is much lighter. Overall a very solid build, but it still needs a few hundred more rounds thru it to break it in. A trigger job will be the next step. For $349.00 Canadian mailed to the door it's tough to argue with. :)

The $349 Canadian explained to me how you got one. :) A few were reported imported here in the USA, but I've never seen one. Glad you are enjoying your pistol.

Too bad there is an embargo in place in the US. Here the Norinco 1911's are a very popular platform for guys to build theire IPSC racing guns on. The steel on these guns is unreal. Way more than I expected. It IS a $350.00 gun, and the finnish shows that, but point it at the target and pull the trigger, it will go BANG consitantly every time.

That does look like quite a nice fit! It appears they might be out of the belt holsters, but looks like they still have the paddle...

Your compact has given me an idea for my next purchase.  I love the 2 tone theme here!

This is my one and only CZ pattern pistol.  It's an EAA Witness Standard Model EA9SS stainless steel 9mm full size, original small frame.  I bough this gun new in 1993, and I have never seen another one exactly like it.  The safety and slide stop were originally black, but have since been polished.  I also added the Hogue grip, and a Millett rear sight with target blade (not shown).  I am still thinking about replacing the front sight with either an XS Sight Systems standard white dot, or a fiber optic dovetail.  I also have a period match barrel with 2 port compensator.  I have an original 1993 EAA product brochure that lists the finish options for a Witness Standard and Carry-Comp as blue, stainless steel, and duo-tone.  The finish options for the Witness Sub-Compact were blue, hard chrome, and duo-tone.  No Wonder Finish in 1993, must have come later.  The brochure states that new for 1993: The trigger guard was redesigned and the beavertail was extended on all Witness models.  The brochure also lists the Witness Sport, Witness Sport L/S, Witness FAB, Witness 9/40, 38/45, & 10/45 Multi-Cal Combos, Witness Limited Class, Witness Multi-Class, Witness Silver Team, and Witness Gold Team models.  I looked everywhere and couldn't find a date code.

PS:  I have read here that some clones have a feature or can be modified so that the hammer can be cocked, the safety engaged, and the slide racked, loading a round.  I remember reading that Rod Slinger has modified guns to incorporate this feature, and has asked Tanfoglio to incorporate this into their design.  My EA9SS has this feature from the factory, just another reason why I really like these pistols.

;D ;D ;D Very Nice!  The Stainless models certainly are very rare, but occasionally surface from time to time.  Congratulations on it!  ;D
