Title: Automatic safety (Part # 21) and Thumb Safety (#34)

Hi new guy here. I'm learning about these fine pistols. Gotta a question; how exactly does the automatic safety function (Part # 21 on the CZ USA parts diagram)? Does it block the firing pin, or the sear? How about the thumb safety, what part of the ignition train does it block?

I believe that the manual safety locks that hammer back and works like a 1911 so you can carry it cocked and locked. The auto safety blocks the hammer from touching the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled all the way. if you are breaking the gun down you will become very familar with how the sear, sear spring and auto safety work.

Thanks Geen. I'm guessing the automatic safety will prevent a discharge from an unintentional drop onto the hammer. I believe the P-64 is prone to this problem but the CZ82 should be OK.

First examine the hammer in relation to the slide.  It doesn't touch.  The auto safety lifts into a notch in the hammer to allow the momentum of the hammer to slap the firing pin only when the trigger is full to the rear.  The safety is a sear block that very positively stops the sear.  If you put this weapon on safe you can pull the trigger all day and it wont drop the hammer.  As for a drop safety... it ain't got one.  It does have a firing pin spring which is pretty substantial so I can't this gun will fire unless you intentially pull the trigger long and hard if the hammer is down or cock and locked carry you'd have to bring the safety down  and feel the very distinct click.  The DA pull is long and gets pretty darn heavy just before it breaks.  All in all these guns are very safe.  Doubt it would fire if you threw it off a building with the hammer back and safety off.  Wont be trying that anytime soon though.

Hey Jman thanks for the detailed reply, when you say the safety blocks the sear do you mean the auto safety or the thumb safety? Thanks!

The auto safety stops the hammer. The Manuel safety stop the sear only when the hammer is cocked. Manuel won't engage while hammer is down.
